I would go as far as to say that checking here is almost indefensible. His hand at this point has showdown value virtually every single time which makes it a horrible spot for him to make a thin value bet, it's impossible for him to bluff, and we have the deck crippled enough that there are only a couple of really big hands he could conceivably have. Our hand range is largely undefined, including some monsters and some air (mid pairs are basically air in this context as they have pretty much no showdown value after he calls the turn on this board) which in his eyes makes this a spot where we could/should bluff again.

as long as the guy has a single functioning braincell this is a spot where his calling range is wider than his betting range, and if he has KK/99 then the money goes in either way
