if you into small stakes no limit 1/2 no max buy in, I hit quads during my time there and 1200 dollar pot cause some folks will buy in for 500 or more.

This past Thursday night I won a $4600 playing 1/2 NL at Binion's. First time I ever took out a $5K marker to play 1/2. Standard preflop opening raise was $98. One of the most fun nights I've had playing live poker.

Looks like Gaming Today is the source. Anyway, nothing against Landry's, but I would rather see some entity that doesn't already own another casino on Freemont Street buy the place. I would hate to see the Harrahfication of downtown.

I can't see how Landrys can possibly run it worse than MTR has. Landrys has done an outstanding job with Golden Nugget....repping and presenting an upper end joint while offering better rates and gambling than even the lower end strip places. I stayed there a couple months ago. The rooms are nice and comparable to Monte Carlo and Luxor tower rooms. The pool was jsut outstanding. The bars and sports book are quite nice. The craps tables had some $5 minimums with really nice people working. I mean I was stunned...often craps tables have the surliest employees in the casino. There was also plenty of $5 minimum BJ that had ok rules and even a $25 minimum decent DD game. All in all, they did a good job. The rooms were under $100 a night on a weekend where even a dump like Imperial Palace was $140 a night. GN was packed all weekend long and they even managed to get some celebrities to see Don Rickles(Eugene Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and John Stamos were sitting right behind us).

Interesting to see if they can do something with Binions. Also if people were unaware, Binions has gone through moderate remodling. But the BJ still sucks.

some of the dealers have one foot in the grave so they a little slow. .

I like the Binion's dealers - Despite their age are better than most dealers in LA. Besides, it was a Binion dealer (Raven) that gave me my nickname "AlienBoy" when I was wearing a Marvin the Martian short... I figured a nickname given by a Binion dealer was like a blessing or something... lol

As an aside. For the tourney player on a budget, there isn't a better value in town than the Binion's Poker Classic starting a week from today.

They're spreading touries of all shapes and sizes (including HORSE, Stud, 2-7 triple draw) and have slooooow structures.

Most buyins are $150.

If anyone shows up for them tournies. They have had a serious problem other then the saturday 2pm tourney, but all tournies where blinds increase 20 min levels are a joke because no time to work your magic, you have to run real well to succeed. And if you think you can go through 6 levels and only seen 60 hands and be a consistant winner in those tournies where bluffing is a no no cause of calling stations then you a wonder.

They need some serious help in their web-marketing department. http://www.binionspokerclassic.com/ goes to a spam page.

No excuse for [censored] like that in 2007.

I broke my live hold'em cherry at Binion's. If Landry's can revive the joint, I'm all for it.

I love Binion's. It was sad to see the place fall on hard times, and I was in town when it got shut down a couple of years ago.
I stayed there for 2 weeks this past February and paid the casino rate ($29 a night, $45 on weekends) for a mini-suite in the west tower, which used to be the Mint. The room was great and the way we were treated was even better.
If Landry's takes over the place I hope they run it well. It's a Vegas landmark and deserves it's special place in local history.

Thing is, the same things were easily said of Sands, Dunes, and even Stardust.

As much as I, too, miss old Vegas, perhaps it is time for Binions to go. It has been on life support for a while, and no one can deny that.
