flop house 5/10.... is there SOMETHING i did wrong here?

Villain seemed to be a reg, just very avg, raised button to weird $23 in a 5/10 game multiple times and I call and usually just lead flop with air and hes folded.

Was there ANY way to prevent this from happening? Should I have raised his c-bet with the nuts? Was it a bad spot to slow play??!?!!

This HH is great. 2 Shortstacks in the hand and no one is putting any money in with a flush, a full house or a straight flush. What sort of constructive replies are you looking for? Had you shoved on the flop he would've called you with his hand and you still would've lost. You're playing with 40bb, there isn't exactly much strategy to discuss.
