Default 20\" - 24\" monitor?

Hello,

I use a laptop for poker with an external 19" external CRT monitor (bad quality).
Because I can barely read the stack and bet sizes when playing 7+ tables on the 19"(1600*1200), because of the bad quality of the monitor, I want to buy a new monitor.
As far as I know you can tile up to 9 non overlapping PS tables on 1600*1200 resolution.

Now I would like to know:
1) How many non overlapping tiled tables can I play on a 20" monitor and on 24" monitor(1920*1200). - I read about the formula in the monitor FAQ, but I do not know the actual sizes of the smallest possible PS table window.
2) Can my laptop display 1900*1200 24" monitor?

There is a Radeon ATI x1300 graphics card in the laptop. For more details: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=327091

Thanks in advance!

Just to be nitty, if you have a 19" CRT that will even DO 1600x1200, it's not a "Bad quality" monitor. You actually have a pretty high-quality monitor that you're driving a lot higher than you should. It's going to look crappy, but most average 19" tubes won't do 1600x1200 at all.

huh? the shrunk size of the PS window is the first item in the faq.

"How many <X> pokersite windows fit on the <Y> monitor?"

Find the resolution for the monitor. (Google it if you don't know.) Divide your width by the poker width. (Round down.) Divide your height by the poker height. (Round down.) Multiply these two numbers together.

Some standard dimensions:

* Almost all default windows: 800x600
* FullTilt: 800x579
* Shrunk Party: 486x367
* Shrunk PokerStars: 483x354

1600x1200 is likely your target resolution.

btw, you only have a vga plug, and 1920x1200 is going to be pushing the boundaries of what you can get down a vga cable.

you're not goign to have a high quality image, but it will almost certainly work.

Thanks Josem.
Sorry about the question being answered in the FAQ.

Can you perhaps give some advice on what size monitor I should chose?
I am in doubt between 20" 22" and 24".
The price of a (Samsung) 20" is ~240 euro, the price of a 22" is ~275 euro and the price of a 24" is 470 euro.

Now my new questions:
1) Would you advice a 22" rather than a 20" (main use if for poker)? The prices are very close.
2) Should I buy two 20/22" monitors rather than one 24" because of the big price difference? (using dualhead2go for example)
3) I saw this product: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-PA1390...dp/B0009X1U3O. Would this be worth buying? My notebook has no numpad and I sometimes have trouble making the correct bet sizes (quickly).

I might come up with more questions.
Thanks for the help so far.

No - because the resolution of the 20" - at 1600x1200 is much better than the resolution of the 22" at 1650x1050 or whatever.

The 20" 1600x1200 is very good for poker.

1) two 20" 1600x1200 monitors would be better than one 24" for poker.

2) you don't need dualhead2go - that's a very bad piece of equipmetn for poker for various reasons.

get yourself the cheapest PCI (not PCIE) video card with DVI output you can find, and put that into your machine. more details in the FAQ.

I haven't looked at that particular link (didn't work for me) but I absolutely adore my external numeric keypad that I bought. I think it is awesome.

I read this in the monitor FAQ:

[ QUOTE ]
"What about my laptop?"

You essentially can't change the video card in a laptop. Some have cards that run dual link DVI already. The Macbook and top of the line Alienware and Asus models offer this. Certainly more will follow; check your specs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Therefore I thought about the dualhead2go.
Why is that product so bad (for poker)?

"it is limited to VGA only monitors (no DVI) and can drive them at a maximum resolution of 1280 by 1024 per display, which means it’s best suited to 19-inch and below LCD screens."

You just told me to get a vidcard right?
The FAQ tells that it's not possible to chance a vidcard in a laptop.
Is there any other option to have 2 external monitors (I prefer at 1600*1200) on my laptop?

if you have a laptop, you simply can't have a number of external monitors.

when i suggested that 2x20" monitors was better than one 24" monitor, I had assumed that you would have sufficient dvi/vga plugs on your PC to run them. I now think I am wrong.

If you can run only one extra monitor, I guess the biggest one is best.
