Downswongs are an OPPORTUNITY time to improve your game and take a more detailed look @ various areas you wouldn't normally do. Although the results won't show much really from any small changes you make until you run better -you'll come out a better player.

Great way to look at it. I know that after running bad for about 10k hands I started posting more hands and really thinking about my game, and I feel I've improved quite a bit. So I guess my downswing is +EV in the long run.

That's a great perspective. I've been going over a lot of hands in pokertracker and have started to go over the biggest wins and losses each session in pokertracker, and have been rewatching some cardrunners videos that I have. I also just started to go over hands in pokerstove which will definitely help me and I need to be more critical of my play in general. So since knowing what a typical downswing "doesn't matter", besides posting on here what do all of u do to improve your game?

Go over big hands (won and lost) in PT, watch CR/stox vids, read the forums, read books, etc. If I'm tilting I'll take a break for a while and won't play if I don't feel like it.

Talk to some poker buddies (if you have any)...

Wow I completely misread hand 1. I thought he baluga-ed you. I am shoving here. He can have a pair that picked up a draw just as often as a hand that has us beat.

In this case wouldnt it be a break even EV decision? Hence he could go either way with it? Or does the money already in the pot affect it to now a slightly +EV.

10 buyins is normal, 20-25 is exceptional but not impossible for the best players.

And i had a breakeven stretch for 50k hands, while running at 7ptBB/100 over 50k hands when I had the same skill level I think. Variance is a bitch and I don't think many players understand it completely.

That being said, you should always look first to your game and don't blame it all on downswing. Just be honest and study the game, think if you made any mistakes after a session so you know it's not all downswing and bad luck but also bad play. (and tbh, I didn't read much of this thread)
