At least on weekend evenings, Mirage room is packed.

[/ QUOTE ]

NL games have taken over the Mirage, and given it a second lease on life.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was playing at the Mirage last weekend. They FINALLY put in electronic waiting lists and got rid of the clipboard system.

With a good location, overall good reputaion, a lot of tables, and apparently management willing to now make some necessary changes, the Mirage could easily move back in to the upper tier poker rooms again.

I still wish they didn't get rid of the tropical wallpaper in the upper section.

a few things to keep in mind.

1 - their dealers are not the same caliber that they used to be.

2 - Mirage is likely going to be on a lower tier once City Center is opened. There is a lot of speculation that a big poker room will open there and Bobby Baldwin will move the Bellagio games to City Center - essentially marginalizing Bellagio like Mirage was marginalized a few years back. It would not shock me if Mirage is re-branded as their "value" property, its not what it used to be.

3) We can likely expect the possibility of world class rooms to open at Fountainbleu (sp?) and Echelon, providing greater competition. Also if rumor is correct when the new Venetian tower opens they will move the poker room.

In short its a new lease on life for Mirage, but I don't think it will ever regain any of the status it once had as a world class room.

Time for RUMORS~! from "sources".

First one is that the City Center poker room is tentatively set to be 30 tables.

Nope. As I found out and wrote in my DSII TR from 6/4, with the new tower they are building an underground garage where players will be able to come into the V from the sportsbook area (basically, the back corner of nothingness beyond the poker room/book at the V where they have the players card signups).

That's what I've heard, too, about the parking at the V. (There goes my parking pass?)

Not surprised about the Paris. They couldn't even get their own chips.

Mirage keeping the 10/20? I dream of being rolled for that game.

I just got this email from a poker room supervisor at Paris:

Just a quick note: FYI - the Paris poker room is NOT
scheduled to close. The things you've heard are
over-inflated rumors gone out of control. Paris is NOT scheduled to close. You can consider me to be a reputable source in the matter, as one of the few supervisors there. You could do us a huge favor by removing from your site any hint or mention of our room closing so people aren't having seeds planted in their mind.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess RR or TT can lock this thread now. I just found it wierd their own employees were out looking for work and telling everyone the room is being axed.

It's like whoever set up the new room in Paris wanted to punish the poker room manager. I doubt you could make the room worse if you tried. Cram the tables in there so tight that you can't get to the desk/cage. Bellagio is spacious in comparison. Oh, and put the sign-up desk back in the far corner so that anyone casually stumbling upon the poker room after getting lost in the casino would not want to work their way back there to ask any questions. The bonus is the noise. Wherever it's coming from, it's so loud that you have to shout just to communicate at your own table, never mind the floor being able to hear you or the dealers yelling.

[/ QUOTE ] I think its fairly certain that most of the blame belongs to the poker room manager (understand that position is jsut one of her many duties).

I disagree, no need to lock the thread because your email answers some questions that some users many want to comment on or respond to. I think its safe to keep the thread open, there is no harm. And since the rumors are so prevalent around town its very relevant.

I stayed at Paris this past spring, and I played next door. The Paris room was tiny, squished between the sports bar and the sports betting room and the main floor bathrooms.

The raised floor of the bar gave the railbirds there an excellent view of half the players cards.

What a horrible place, it will not be missed.

I played at the MGM grand this january. It's not as popular as the bellagio or mirage, but they have a very nice room and games are fairly soft.
