Yeah knocked up sucked. It was basically a chick flick with a few funny moments.

I think there's more story in this movie than some people are giving it credit for...it's true that the plot isn't exactly convoluted or suspensful, but plot and story are two different things...

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah. exactly.

this movie was amazingly funny, both my girlfriend and i were dying throughout. we both loved knocked up too but both liked this a little better.

i actually thought 40YOV was the weakest of the three movies, but i liked it too. i can't get how people say that was a better movie. steve carrell is a pretty one-dimensional actor and i don't recall really laughing out loud that often.

knocked up walks a very fine line, because it tries to be a sort of grown-up movie about relationships, but a lot of the humor is also pretty scatological / filthy. i think it succeeds but there is a little bit of tension there. superbad doesn't really stretch the genre boundaries at all - it's less ambitious. it is a teen coming-of-age type comedy and it is simply one of the absolute best of that genre. for me it was a little easier to get totally absorbed in than knocked up for that reason. maybe knocked up will be a more enduring movie, or will get better with age, but on first viewing i had more fun with superbad (but loved both).

I think all 3 are pretty strong movies. I laughed quite a bit through all 3. In order of most laughs SB>40>KU. I can not say however that is the order I enjoy them the most.

I have seen 40YOV many times, Knocked Up x2 and Superbad once. I think all 3 will hold up to repeated viewings rather well.

What I liked about these movies is that that the writers directors made movies with sophomoric humor that were not sophomoric. For instance, could you imagine if Adam Sandler got hold of one of these scripts. Stick a freakin pencil in my eye.

I have to give credit where credit is due, guys like Apatow Rogan (you can include Rudd and a few others that were in several of their movies) really understand how to make people laugh but do it in a way that is completely different and fresh. For awhile I think movie comedies were slipping bigtime as I am not a huge former SNL cast member fan. However, between these guys and SBC, I can not wait for the next project.

wow i guess im the only one who was super disappointed in this movie.

[/ QUOTE ]

nope, not at all - it was terrible. I was half-drunk and wanting this movie to be awesome and it blew chunks.

Review:

Fat kid: [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] food [censored] balls
(audience HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA OMG HOW DROLL)
*Dick Montage
(audience HAHAHAHAHAHAHH A TANK IS RUNNING OVER A DICK WHY IS THERE A TANK THERE)
*cops do something cops aren't supposed to do*
(audience: WOWOWOWWOW THIS IS SO FUNNY AND ORIGINAL HOPEFULLY THEY KICK SOMEONE IN THE BALLS)
etc.

[ QUOTE ]
i dunno, i was letdown and i thought it was pretty repetitive and predictable.

maybe im getting old.

[/ QUOTE ]

you probably just like clever humour and you need the main characters to say more than the words dick [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] and see pictures of dicks and get hit in the dick to be humoured

fwiw, the arrested development guy is a great actor and was moderately funny

guess I am in the minority, because I think this movie was not that good at all. Some funny parts and funny lines, but the middle part of the movie (McLovin w/ cops and the other two at the adult party) was boring as sin.

I think I should stop reading threads like this, as they put really high hopes in my mind for movies like this and then I go see them and just feel kinda "meh" about them. Movie was ok, and I laughed a few times but there wasn't anything great about it. Just got back from it, and I'm disappointed.
