Default Curious how I played low PP short-handed

20/40 online 6-max.

I am dealt 44 UTG +1, UTG raises I call, CO folds, button 3-bets, both blinds fold, UTG and I call. Flop is 2d6c2s, UTG checks, I bet, button raises, UTG folds and i call. Turn is a 3d, i bet villian calls. River is 10d both check.

Played ok? I am never sure when to give up / stop betting these low PP's.

I'll preface this by saying that I suck playing short tables and that you're gonna get much better insight from the other posters here. But...

PF: what are you trying to accomplish by just cold calling PFR? IF I was going to play 44 against PFR, I'd raise him and hope to get it HU with position. As you played it, you've got a small PP OOP and paid three bets to get there.

Flop: Do you think you'd have a better idea of where you're at if you'd have c/r'ed the flop?

Just my $.02

Oh, one last question: what would you have done if villian had bet the river?

yes, river check was to induce a bet and avoid having to pay 2-bets on river.

Fold preflop.

As played and absent any reads I just check-call all the way after your flop bet is raised. The button is probably showdown bound with overcards. Check-raising the turn is an option against certain opponents. Donk the turn only if you know the button is weak passive(I would say this if he only cold called the preflop raise, since he 3 bet he is more likely to have a big pocket pair so donking obviously wouldn't be good,).

I would say you are going to showdown here so get there cheaply.

Should I really fold this pre-flop in a 6-handed game especially online where any pair is often good at showdown?

Your not going to get to showdown often if you just call here because others will usually come in behind you.

Unless you know that the UTG plays super loose preflop and super weak post flop and the other players will get out of your way I think three betting 44 here is a little too aggressive.
