Building A Stack When Card Dead?! HOW!?
I've been playing MTTs lately and I do ok cashing pretty consistently. But, there are periods, frequently for all of us, where we go dead. As cold as the decks can be, what do you 2+2'ers suggest to a MTT player on how to build a stack when the cards are just not coming in? Any tips, strategies or comments would help....SHiP IT!

Re: Building A Stack When Card Dead?! HOW!?
in a stt, early game, if you are card dead you dont build a stack. no way around it. just keep folding and try to hit the mid levels with 1300-1350 chips which gives you plenty of chips for pushing.

Re: Building A Stack When Card Dead?! HOW!?
wait for the blinds to increase in relation to your stack.
don't spend all your chips and build an image by playing loose with junk at 10/20 and 15/30. don't worry about not being 1 out of 204595823950 during the first hour, or about having a slightly below-average stack... in fact, don't even look at the tourney lobby. just wait for cards and chances to be first into the pot in LP. |

Re: Building A Stack When Card Dead?! HOW!?
this not looking at the tournament lobby is a very good tip - as it improves your game dramatically.
we like to compare ourselfs to the other players in the field, so if you see you are behind, have only half the average stack or worse, you get impatient and try to force it with non premium hands - and go broke. remember - if your stack is only 1/4 of the chipleader - this only means to double up twice - this can be reached within 2 hands. as long as blinds are low you can't force it without cards (at least not in the low buy-ins). when the blinds increas you can start collecting chips by stealing restealing - but therefore you need chips, so don't waste them early on. |
