I've made weed vodka out of old stems before, but thats about it

Did you get high as you drank it? I've heard that THC can't be extracted in alcohol unless it's in somewhere around a %60 solution. I've also heard using everclear to extract it then using stuff to dilute it and for flavoring is awesome. Still planing on trying it......

i used raspberries and about 5 weeks, and it came out well

How soon did you start checking it? Everything I read said most should be done in 1 week, aside from really fibrous things like ginger and pineapple.

I did 7 creations of about 8 oz last night (equal share of one 1.75L bottle of Skyy vodka):

Granny Smith apple with rosehips and cinnamon
Strawberry and mango
Kiwi, starfruit and blood orange peel
Blueberry and mint
Pear, ginger with a bit of whole allspice
Garlic, basil and dried chipolte peppers
Ginger with whole allspice, cloves and star anise

Obviously I went against my own proclamation to stick with seasonal fruits but I could not help myself.

Will report on my favorites when I think they are done.

what are the advantages of infusing vodka over merely mixing it with similar ingredients? obviously with some of these it would be tedious or unwieldy to make mixed drinks with them, is there any reason beyond this?

KJS - sounds great. What portions did you use?

Did you just kind of eyeball and stuff the ingredients into a bottle, add 8 fl. oz vodka, cap the bottle, and stick in freezer?

Infusing really blends the flavors together whereas what you are suggesting would not really. Imagine making a cocktail like you suggest and leaving it for 48 hours. How would it taste different? There is your answer.

I used canning jars, not bottles. And I put them in a dark corner of the cupboard, not freezer.

This is my first time, so I am not going to pretend I know the correct proportions. Yes I did just eyeball, keeping in mind some stuff I read online.

I did about 1/2 an apple, 1/2 a pear, 4 strawberries+4 mango slices, a handful and a half of blueberries, 5 garlic cloves, whole kiwi/half starfruit. A bit of this and that as far as herbs.

Getting the portions and timing right will be the key. I don't expect to get it right this time necessarily.
