My GF is finishing her PHd at Princeton. We live 7 minutes from campus and about 1.5 hours from AC. If you did Princeton and plan many trips to the casinos, you could move a little further south giving yourself a 20-25min drive to work and 1:15 drive to AC. Just stay away from Camden. Highest crime rate in the US.

Anyway; they simply don't play stud in California? What's that about?

[/ QUOTE ]
They do, however from what I understand they typically only offer a single limit, say 30/60.

I am a little puzzled however at what type of project you're doing that any old school will do

I think they play stud at the Hustler casino in LA. I guess it's Larry Flint's favorite game. If you're going to go the So Cal route, look into UCSB. Santa Barbara is a much nicer place to live than LA, and it's a 45 minute plane ride to Las Vegas.

I understand your puzzlement (is that a word?), Bremen. The project is called "Visual resources in cultural heritage institutions", which means that any organisation that deals with images in one way or another is interesting. All major cities have museums, and all major universities have art history or visual culture departments. At the end of the day, I can go pretty much anywhere and have a greatly rewarding time; Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley, the Met, the Smithsonian, Getty ... it's all good.

PS: I'm thinking that Flynt's game is slightly over my head

What, you don't want to sit down for some 3000/6000 with Phil Ivey and Barry Greenstein?

I think they might spread some low/mid limit stud games too.

For art you want to be near NY. Columbia, NYU are great univs. Met, MOMA, Guggenheim, the list is endless. You want a tour guide? I have no idea though what your PhD topic could mean.

Live across the river in NJ if you like. Only 1.5 hours to AC.

Of course, perhaps you could sell the idea that you want to study table images -- then Las Vegas could work.
