Difference in internet speed
How much difference, in practice, is there between 3mbps DSL and 6mbps cable? I don't do much downloading, a little bit of streaming, and the only game I play online is WCIII. I have had 6mbps and 8mbps cable, and couldn't see a damn bit of difference.

Re: Difference in internet speed
Practically there probably isn't very much difference, especially since the cable connection can degrade if the leg you are on becomes over populated and the cable company doesn't keep up.

Re: Difference in internet speed
I had 1 Mbps down at my office for a couple years and 4-5 Mbps down at my house and I spent hours online at both places every day and could never tell the difference. I literally forgot I only had 1 Mbps down at my office. The only time it was ever noticeable was when I'd be trying to download something really big like a Linux distro etc.

Re: Difference in internet speed
Speed wise the cable has a higher theoretical throughput. Realistically this depends on how well your provider maintains their network. In general I'd go with the DSL since it is a dedicated connection to the CO (of course that dosn't mean there won't be a bottleneck at the CO).

Re: Difference in internet speed
3 and 6 make no noticable difference in streaming music and playing wc3 but if you download a lot of porn 6 is they way to go
