getting around from AC Convention Center
I'm going to AC this weekend and staying at the Sheraton by the convention center. It looks like it is only about 5 blocks from the Boardwalk (along Michigan Avenue), but can anyone tell me if this would be a safe walk late at night?
Do the Jitneys from the casinos make a stop at the Convention Center? If so, how much would the trip likely cost? |

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
Michigan is one of the safer streets you can traverse at night because it's the street The Walk outlet stores are mainly on. It's well-lit and there are very few places you can get jumped. On a summer weekend night when the town doesn't sleep there will probably be people there at all hours. Still, the trick can be in safely getting to Michigan Ave. I would advise spending the $2 on the Jitney, it basically takes you right to the foot of the train station steps.

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
Thanks for the info about the jitney and Michigan Avenue.
But do you really think it may not be safe walking along the boardwalk, say between the Taj Majal and Michigan Avenue? I have always felt safe on the Boardwalk. |

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
Walking on the Boardwalk between the Taj and Michigan Ave. is fine.Off the Boardwalk, especially at night, is when AC can be dicey. Bear in mind the Convention Center is about a 1/4 mile off the Boardwalk. Follow the above advice and take the jitney.

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
I've walked from there to the boardwalk and felt fine - as long as you stay on the main drag and proceed right the boardwalk (and not the sidestreets) it should be ok. That said, I was with some friends - alone, late at night, I probably wouldn't do it (I like cabs but that's me). You also have to be up for the walk - about 15-20 mins to Taj I think. But I like walking.
Jitneys are $2 if you catch them around town. But, if you catch them outside the train station (attached to the convention center), then they're free. They show up when incoming trains are arriving and can take you to all of the casinos (stand in front of the appropriate sign). Check out NJ Transit's Web site for exact train times. GL - I will probably be down there this weekend as well! Jeff |

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
Thanks for the further info. Do all Jitneys stop at the convention center? Do they all go to all casinos? I read a bit about them online and they talked about different routes but didn't really explain them well. How often would one usually need to wait to catch a jitney from a casino late at night?

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
The roads are actually much safer then the boardwalk, I wouldn't walk on the boardwalk at ANY time after dark.

Re: getting around from AC Convention Center
When the trains come in to AC, the jitneys line up outside the station (so basically they are sitting in front of the station/convention center and directly across the street from the Sheraton entrance). I'm not sure if the convention center is a "stop" on the jitney route (since I've only taken jitneys from the train station to Borgata or Taj) but when the jitneys arrive to pick up arriving train passengers (they show up about five minutes before scheduled train arrival times), you can take them to any casino. Simply stand in front of the appropriate sign to get on the right Jitney (the sign says which casino they go to).
