Re: What Are Your Early Poker Memories?
[ QUOTE ]
When I was 7 I moved to a new school. The first recess break I went outside and saw many of the boys playing this marble game where one guy would put a marble against the wall, draw a line 5 feet away or so . If you stood behind the line and hit the marble with your marble you got both. If you missed he got to keep yours. Well I immediately saw the edge in this so I devised a plan where I put the marble in a very small divot and put a very small pebble in front of it. I then told everyone Id give two marbles if you hit mine. I eventually had so many marbles I was selling them for 10c each. At the end of the school year I had over $500 dollars. My Grandparents owned a campground on a lake. I caught about 20 frogs one summer and held frog races with all the kids at the campground. The beauty of these races is I charged 25c to enter, 25c to "rent a frog" then I would hold a race when we reached 10 entrants. The winner would get 2 bucks and second would get 1 buck for a 2 dollar profit for me each race-which worked out to about 8 bucks an hour, not bad for an 8 year old. [/ QUOTE ] awesome. reminds me of my brother-in-law, who around the same age, used to earn a quarter a day or so for getting up early and starting his neighbor's car for him on winter days so it would heat up. |

Re: What Are Your Early Poker Memories?
[ QUOTE ]
I played draw poker with my dad, I took a month's allowance off of him when I drew quads versus his straight. He didn't play me for another 17 years. Then he called me down with 7-3. I had 7-2. In 2023, the rivalry shall continue. [/ QUOTE ] the 3 actually played? it paired up? otherwise, split pot and you got rooked. |

Re: What Are Your Early Poker Memories?
Great memories of poker! Getting busted by his grandmother, water poker, early tournies with sunglasses and plastic chips, match the pot games, sneaking in casinos, playing with Mom and Dad, playing for school fake-incentive money, fake IDs to play old guys, 15 year old loses his Moped, gaffing a marbles game, renting out frogs for frog races, winning a pair of Nikes his parents made him give back. What is Acey-Ducey?
At Christmas when I was about ten, my family had a poker game where the uncles, aunts, and cousins played. I emptied my piggy bank to play and lost all my money. My parents did not give it back. |

Re: What Are Your Early Poker Memories?
I worked in my dad's bar back in NYC. I was pretty good at Gin and helped him run his numbers racket. Came out to Vegas and played Gin until no one would play against me (I was that good). Took up poker and won like 40% of the major tournaments I entered. I did great until I found drugs and died.
Oh wait, that's Stuey Unger's story. Mine is boring. |

Re: What Are Your Early Poker Memories?
First cash poker game I ever saw was in the back room of a pool hall in Staten Island. Guy was slumped over the table. Another guy just shot him. Aces cracked?
