Why are people all of a sudden acting like Brian is the worst player in the world now and can't back up any of his claims and Bobby Baldwin is TeH gOd because of one hand. I'm not taking either side, but since when did one pot mean you are either good/no good at poker?

well this is super. first brian was studying in grad school about light emitting diodes when I first ran across him in poker. pretty sure if nothing worked ou with poker, he has some 'job skills' (what the [censored] are job skills? there are a million different skills that one could parlay into a successful career)

i think that a lot of time people don't actually care about the answers to questions like this. they just want to say some stuff and have fun BSing. i don't know brian, but if you're going to bring up the grad school thing, i think you might be on the right track. from when he was in "the well" in ssnl:

me: "I wouldn't worry about the grad-school decision right now. You were good enough to get in in the first place, and your PI probably thinks pretty highly of you, since s/he gave you a one-year leave of absence. If online poker is as profitable as it sounds, why not just play poker for the next few years, then show up at your lab and say "hey, I'd like to come back now .. I'll cover my own stipend; just let me back in the lab." Can the PI really say no?"

him: "This is something I am considering."

You're right that's not the case. But...people were saying Brain was God because he went on a three-day heater.

why would you even want to play anymore?

[/ QUOTE ]

For the same reason Tom Brady continued to play football after he won a Super Bowl, earned millions and nailed Tara Reid. People love to compete and test themselves.

As well, the longer you play cards exclusively like Aba, the longer that distance between jobs and work experience gets on your resume. If I'm an employer, who do I want to hire: The guy straight out of school who has been working as an intern and has his head on straight, or some guy who's been playing poker for five years with no job experience and is a flamed out degen. You make the call.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, sad what happened to Bobby Baldwin, wasn't it. I hear the guy is flipping burgers for a living.

Oh, wait...

That's really a bad analogy.
