Re: why do U have to MINIMUM raise preflop????
I do this alot.
The reason is simple. I am not there to steal blinds or play right. I notice that there is no better way to put your typical internet nit off his game more than turn his 1/2 game into a 2/4. Nothing. Occasionally, I will be re-raised by a player who has a big hand. That's good. I fold. Very rarely, one of the nits at the table turns out not to be a nit and starts to play back. That's bad. I will either leave the table or straighten up my act, depending on the lineup. In the meantime, I'm always looking for the player who has an overreaction to this. He is the guy who is going to pay me, eventually, because he's offended by my supposedly horrible play. Its far more common than the right reaction, which is to 3-bet (or more) me when they have a good but not great holding. Of course, my AA and KK raise look a lot like my J9s or 78s raise as well. Its sounds like you may be suffering from "flopitis," the irrational need to see cheap flops with marginal holdings. |

Re: why do U have to MINIMUM raise preflop????
Reminded me of a guy I played as I first started out playing online:
"Just call to see the explicative flop", he'd moan every single time somebody raised. No, we play poker, it is up to you to prove that the way we play is wrong. Their play must be easily exploitable, but apparently nobody is doing that? |

Re: why do U have to MINIMUM raise preflop????
Actually if when people minimum raise after everyone has limped, and I'm last to act, I just put the timer on and wait another 20 seconds to counter their stupidity. I suggest you all do the same so they stop.

You want us to believe your consistently taking money from these players, but on the other hand you want us all to band together to stop them. You sir, are an idiot.

Re: why do U have to MINIMUM raise preflop????
It's just retarded when someone keeps minimum raising EVERY SINGLE hand preflop... What's the point really? you're just losing more than you normally would because the people that do it play very very weak post-flop. And there's nothing wrong with seeing lots of flops. BTW, whoever said this is in wrong forum, I only see it occur on the internet. In casinos, there's no one that continually raises minimal every hand preflop. If they did I'm sure they'd get smacked.
But to get back on topic, if everyone limps (especially in pot limit omaha), and you hold a mediocre hand, why are you raising minimum out of position when you know everyone is going to call you anyways? All you are doing is setting yourself to lose more than you initially invested, or lost alot more than you initially invested. Doesn't make any sense to me, maybe that's why people always do it on the internets... |

Wow, Henson! You have a seriously flawed view of the game. I suggest you study more, bitch less.

[/ QUOTE ] Obviously, if it really throws players (OP) off their game, there might be some merit to this, but you are effectively changing the game from a 100BB 1/2 game to a 50BB 2/4 game where you open-limp every hand. This sounds like a juicy game to me. |

Re: why do U have to MINIMUM raise preflop????
OP-- your ideas intrigue me and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter, "Modern Nit". I especially like the idea about almost timing out. It really put me in my place. It makes me tilt, especially when I'm playing 10 tables and could use the extra time.
From now on, I promise, no more mini-raising nits, no matter how profitable. I just can't stand that almost timing out trick out of yours. It's better than the old "I'm rubber, you're glue" move I used to pull in 2nd grade. |
