Default Amsterdam Poker

I'm off to Amsterdam at the start of October, and would like to include some poker in this trip.

Holland Casino website states it runs "NLG 10/20 to NLG 100/200". I assume that's limit? I can't see 10/20 being the smallest NL game they run. I'd rather play NL.

Does anyone know what the games are like, and is there anything I should know before turning up?

Thanks in advance!

They used to run limit holdem and PLO. They probably have NLHE MTTs now and maybe NLHE or PLHE cash games. The rake is high, as in much of continental Europe.

The last time I was there in February, the €10/20 was fixed limit (and as betgo mentioned, the rake was ridiculous).

I believe there was also a €1/2 blinds no limit game going, but I was a little to far gone to be sure.

If you go, remember to bring your passport as they check your ID on entry and charge a nominal entry fee.

They always have these running after 20:00

1 10euro Sit n Go (long waiting list for obvious reasons)
1 2/4 limit game (long waiting list too, and 10%rake=crappy)
1 5/10 limit game
1 10/20 limit game
2 5/5 no limit tables with a max buyin of 1000 euro (very soft the 2 times I sat at this table)

And if there are enough people to open up a higher stakes game, they will create a table.

They also offer $50+$10 rebuy tournaments (wednesdays, and thursdays I believe)

If you want some more info you can always pm me ofcourse.

The tournaments are Tuesday (NLHE) €50+€10 Rebuy, very bad structure, Wednesday (PLHE) €50+€10, very bad structure, Rebuy Thursday (LHE) €50 + €10 Rebuy, very bad structure.

Oh and you have to take your passport, entrance cost money the first three times and it's adviseble that u drop youre name on the list in the afternoon, the waitinglist is long.

i was there a couple of years ago and all they had was a single 10/20 limit, and a single 1/2 NL. I played the limit and occasionally saw 10-15 euro raked out of the pot.

tables are smoking and there was always _somebody_ smoking *cough*.

don't dilly dally when you get up... i almost got my chips picked up when deciding to grab a drink at the bar on my way back from the toilet. You're supposed to only get 5 minutes away (not 3 orbits like in USA). I did think it strange they had no "big blind" and "small blind" buttons.

show up an hour early and you should be able to get on the table of your choice. go to the cashier and sign up on the list.

Don't get currency exchanged there unless you *know* you're going to be a winner. rate is much better at the ATM around the corner in Leidseplein. They also charge something like a 3% commission both ways (although you probably wouldn't want to buy back your dollars at the crappy rate... better rate at the airport)

If you've never been to Amsterdam, then you're in for a treat when you get out of the casino Friday or Saturday night. Leidseplein is an awesome party square with many restaurants and bars. you have to see it to believe it.

You just made me want to go back there very badly.

I was there last summer and played the 10/20 Limit and the rake was high but i managed to win over 500 euro in 1 night. Most of the players know each other and all play badly. They don't mind talking to you in english but will sometimes switch to talking dutch and bad mouth your play when you win there money. They seem to get extra mad when you check raise them but they always call you. It was fun and i reccomend it. They will bring you food at the table and it is pretty good. bad thing was a lot of chain smokers and they close at 2am. Have fun

Rake is 5% with max of 20 (yeah i know, fkin high)
2/4 limit is 10% rake.

You pay for drinks. No, seriously.

Also, not weed friendly, but you could probably step right outside and enjoy. Nice view of the canal and the Rijksmuseum available, too.
