Newbie Stud question

I am learning the game and want to play live. I usually play stud in HORSE games on the net or occasionally at a regular low stakes table... on FTP the games are listed like most limit games... 2/4 with ante .40 ... at my local casino website they list it as "Seven Card Stud for $1 and $4 with 50 cent antes." What does mean?

$1 is the bringin, $4 is the complete? Making it 4/8 with 50c antes, $1 bringin? Not really sure, never seen it listed like that. Or maybe it means spread limit, $1-$4?
