God of War movie news
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157901
Has anyone noticed how successful 300 was the past 2 weeks? I believe the movie grossed over $100m in 2 weeks. The story of that movie is closely related to the GOW material. The possibility of a GOW movie has been getting tossed around for years. I haven't seen 300, but I seriously doubt the story can hold any weight to GOW's. If done right, I feel that GOW would make one of the best "mythical" movies ever. I've had plenty of people that are total non gamers notice me playing the game and would sit and watch when the cutscenes of the main story were playing. Almost all of them wer elike "wow, that's pretty cool." Opinions? |

Why respond if you're just going to nit pick? |

Re: God of War movie news
300 is seriously overrated. Maybe the comic book and the story you get from reading it make it seem like a good idea for a movie, but the movie isn't anything special. You can see every (I really mean EVERY) climax/suspenseful part of the movie in the 2 minute trailer. I'm sitting there and watching it, and it's just stupid how they make it seem like the Spartans are winning effortlessly.
That being said... dunno about GoW. Haven't played it and don't know the story. But 300 isn't anything special, contrary to what enthusiasts claim. I would personally take Gladiator over 300 in that genre, and I thought Sin City did a better job using that type of filmmaking. |

Re: God of War movie news
I think God of War would be excellent if Cameron or some other awesome director does it. It's got all the element's of a good movie: romance (Kratos' wife and daughter), betrayal, revenge, a few dramatic twists. It would have to be done by an awesome director and A+ casting though. Otherwise it will end up in the graveyard with all of those failed Stephen King book to movie translations.

Re: God of War movie news
Ignore the hater up there Buck. GOW's story is much more interesting than 300's execution. I agree that if done by the right guy it would kick ass. I think GOW1's cutscenes are better than the majority of movies anyways.
Spend your millions on something else however: It's being done. "Universal Pictures has snagged up the rights to the project and Alex Gartner will produce it. No writer or director has been assigned to the project yet... " Yay! Please don't screw this up people! |

Re: God of War movie news
From wikipedia:
"Jaffe also expressed interest in seeing actor Djimon Hounsou in the role of the protagonist, Kratos. "You have to get past the fact that Kratos is Greek, and Djimon is black, but in terms of the way he looks and his acting ability and his physique — I can't think of a better choice." It is believed the film will set for a 2007 release date." |
