Live hand - $45 rebuy. BvB action, played to the river.
OK, so in a 33 player tourney at my Casino - $45 with rebuys. Top 6 pay, top 3 get a ticket to a $340 rebuy + cash too. Nearing the end of the 2nd hour.
16 or 17 left. I have 19500 in chips, probably sitting around 7th or so. The villain has 19200, both stacks before posting blinds. Folds to me in the SB at 600/1200. I have J7ss & limp in, BB checks (most times I’ll raise from the SB if it’s folded to me, but will sometimes limp with marginal hands). Flop is 337 rainbow. I fire 2000, BB ponders & calls. Pot now 6400. Turn is 9. I fire 3500. Quickly called. Pot now 13400. River is 5, no flush draws out there. I bet 5000. BB ponders & shoves. 7500 for me to call, I have 7800 left. Pot now ~30K. Now, this was only his 3rd hand at this table, but I had played with him at a previous table in the first hour, and saw him flop 2 sets & play them fast in position. One time he raised flop, the other, he raised turn. I’m figuring if he has a 3, he probably does the same. Does anyone call this? Should my river bet have been larger so as to fully commit myself to the hand & have to call it? Or should I have checked river? Thoughts on my play on all street appreciated. |

Probably wasn't the most interesting hand.
I tanked & called, he flipped up 74. I was roundly criticised at the tables for my call, although one bloke said "great call, mate". |

flop bet looks good... i probably would have slowed down on the turn... not sure if the call is good? if you thought you were beat you probably should have mucked right? You would have had 14000 if you mucked...
I'm all for going for your gut, but it's tough to say what you were doing here... what range did you put him on? |

Re: Live hand - $45 rebuy. BvB action, played to the river.
Well he's checked in the BB, so virtually anything?
My thoughts were if he had a 3 he was raising the flop or turn (as he'd done previously with sets/trips). If he floats me on the flop & hits a 9 on the turn, good luck to him. You're right, I probably should've slowed on the turn. If I check there & he fires, I should be mucking, yeah? Basically in my mind, I thought my 7 was good, and my bets on the flop/turn were such that I was able to fold if he came over the top. Once I fire the river, I'm basically committed to calling his shove, right? I tanked for probably 2-3 minutes on this one. |
