Default Live 3/6 - Is 3betting flop for a free turn stupid or no?

Live office game. $3/$6 LHE (5 handed)

SB is pretty good. He's a regular tag in full ring situations, but can transition to smartLAG when it gets short (He's a winning player at 5/10 6max online). It's getting late though so he might be feeling gambly (cold-calling pre-flop from SB with marginal hands etc).

BB is fundamentally solid, but can be a bit weak/tight.

Preflop: Hero is Btn with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
2 folds, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (6 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, SB raises, BB calls, Hero 3-bets, SB calls, BB calls.

Any merit to this?

Since I'm the only guy on this forum who seems to advocate capping 8x from SB's pov, yes there's probably merit to it.

how likely is it that you have the best hand right now?

I wouldn't do this btw.

I wouldn't bother with a draw this weak.

It is very very unlikely. There's a ton of history.

The way I figured, I have 7 outs, and with BB cold-calling the C/R it would freeze up SB (i.e. he wouldn't 4bet as light as if it was HU). Mind you, there's a 5-bet cap in this game.

If I have 7-outs I have about 25-28% equity on the flop (Unless either has A8, they wouldn't play A7, A4 or Ax overs like this). So with a second opponent I'm not losing as much of the extra small bet as if it were HU, and I plan to take a free card on the turn if I miss.

That was how I thought it out, and of course I hit the turn and got the BB to call one more bet and the SB to call me down. He then started arguing about how dumb it was to 3bet the flop. I just wanted a second oppinion.

Tell him "gamboool?" and then look at him questionly. Make sure you spell it "gamboool though and not gamble. Next step is to pick up AA next time they're in the blind, then proceed to kick him in the nuts.

I think the play rests entirly on if you can convince yourself on the flop that neither of them has an A and if you think there will be any action. If an A peels on the turn then the action may go dead, big por though so one of them may make a crying turn. This play is terribl though if theres a chance that either blind is leading the turn.
