In terms of which would be hardest to learn on your own, if one wanted a good understanding of the discipline/field at a college level. Assuming you have access to all neccessary books but don't have class/classmates or profs to help out.

Philosophy

just my opinion...

econ because the principles might be hard to grasp at some levels...

polisci, i think discussion/debate is needed in these kinds of classes to help further understanding and my opinion is that a lot of people in this area might try law school and the interaction would prolly help imo...

philosophy, see above...

sociology...

i put history, art history and psychology on the same level below the others because it seems that books might be all u need to do well in these areas as i don't see the point for discussion...

I would guess they are all in the same group with the exception of econ, which may be more difficult. Ranking each would probably depend on the school.

Phil
the rest are all garbage (not literally, but not the best majors imo)

I got a B.S. in Econ and if you are decent with stat principles its not that bad a major...Granted the one class I didnt end up taking was Game theory but econometrics wasnt to bad and kinda interesting.
