Default AQ flop fold

I don’t know anything about the Villain. BB is loose, sometimes LAG.

Sportsbook.com $1-$2 full

Hero is in the middle with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

folds to Hero
Hero raises
Villain cold calls in cutoff
SB folds
BB calls

Flop (3 way, 6.5 sb):

T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

BB checks
Hero checks
Villain bets
BB calls
Hero folds

Is this a standard fold? Something about this hand just bugs me and I don’t know what it is.

once it goes check/check/bet/call, you need to fold. But yes, bet the flop

What are the reasons for betting the flop?

You raised preflop, no one reraised, you have the best hand much of the time and even when you don't you have outs.

OP, search and read on continuation bet. It's the bet you failed to make here.

Basically, it is often best to bet first-in again on the flop if you were the last preflop raiser whether you hit the flop or not.

It is often for value, your opponents also miss ~2/3 of their flops. Even if they hit, you may be able represent a better hand and get folds from weak or marginal made hands (e.g. K84 board and you have AJ, they may fold 8x, 77-55, etc here).

If the flop is very coordinated and you have my opponents it maybe wise to skip the continuation bet.

On this flop you're likely to hold the best hand quite a bit. You also have outs, and could even get something like 22 or 33 to fold. Betting the flop here should show a nice profit if you do it 1000 times.
