Default Question about the USPC

I was just wondering how many players were in the 2005 U.S. Poker Championship because only 18 players got paid so that means there were not alot of players. Also what was the buyin.

Thanks

$10000 buy-in

Only 226 players showed up in 2005

For reasons unknown, many recreational players avoid the USPC even though its TV contract with ESPN is far superior than the Borgata events which are part of the WPT.

The Trump Taj is on the boardwalk and had a reputation of being "down market" compared to the Borgata, which is on the other side of town and has the reputation of being "up market".

It's certainly better than it has been in previous years:

2004 187
2003 99
2002 72
2001 76
2000 106
1999 unknown
1998 74
1997 No info found
1996 100

It's also scheduled in a busy time for tournaments. They schedule it around other AC tournaments, but last year, if I remember correctly, players had to go from Borgata to Aruba and back to AC.

If you're not from town, I'd probably not head back in to the USPC without good reason. Field is generally smaller (as discussed), and getting to AC is an hour ride from the airport in Philly. Going through that to play in the filth that is the Taj probably doesn't hold much appeal for many players.

It actually seems like if an amateur wants to get on TV playing poker, the USPC is their best chance.

Since ESPN broadcasts twelve episodes, and show at least three tables every episode, they must have shown hands involving almost half the field at some point or other.

Of course, you could also get on TV by entering the WSOP Main Event, yelling really loudly and smelling really bad.

I was in the audience for the whole final table. It's hard to find me because I was wearing dark clothes.

Doesn't the USPC have the best tournament structure around? 20k starting chips + low starting blinds if not mistaken.

Does anyone know what poker sites have satellites for the USPC? personally I have never seen an online qualifier for this tournament which is maybe the reason they don't get the number of players they should.

I found out that Lance Funston lives about 15 blocks from me in Philadelphia.
