Default Traveling with a cat.

I am preparing for a 15 hour drive and have no idea what to do with the cat. We have two dogs, but we have traveled with them before. We have a cat carrier, but will the cat go to the bathroom on demand when we stop like a dog will?

15 hours is a long time... usually cats will be too terrified of traveling in a car to go to the bathroom. They might puke though, if they get motion sick. Just don't feed them in the morning before you leave, feed them a little halfway through the trip, then when you arrive. And bring newspapers for the cat carrier just in case.

All the cats I've travelled with have been no problem. You may want to keep the carrier close to somebody, so they can reach in and pet him from time to time. It will go when you stop and let it out just like the dogs will. Doesn't hurt to bring the newspapers just in case, as mbillie says.

depending on the cat, you might just let it roam around

My cat freaks out whenever I take her a couple blocks in the car. When I was a kid and we moved across the country though, I remember we just let the cat roam around in the car. I think there was even a small litter box set up in the back (station wagon).
