Default Atlantic City Trip Recap

My friend and I took to a trip to A.C. for the night on Friday. We're coming from New York so it usually takes us 3 hours to get there but because of traffic on the GSP, we got there in about 4 1/2. With that said we were still pumped up to get down there and play some cards.

When we got there(10:30)we checked into the Econo Lodge Boardwalk for the night. We booked the hotel the day of the trip and it ended up being $90 for the night, which is not bad for a Friday night. I would def. recommend this hotel to anyone who can't get a room in the casino's, and doesn't want to spend a [censored] load to stay the night. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, and they included a continental b-fast in the morning. It wasn't in the greatest area but where in Atlantic City is there great areas, plus it was literally a minute from the casinos.

Anyway, after we checked in we decided to head over to the Taj to play some poker. I sat down at the 1-2 NL, while my buddy played 2-4 limit. When I tell you I got the best table draw in the place, I'm not exaggerating. This table was full of fish and after a little while, I realized I was the best player at the table by far. I wanted to play the midnight madness tourney that the taj has after a little 1-2 but my table was too good to leave.

Here are a couple interesting hands that came up during the session. I picked up pocket aces on the button, middle position guy raises to 15 and I just call in position and the bb calls too. Flop comes K54 rainbow, preflop raiser bets 15 and I just call and bb folds. Turn is another 5 and the guy bets out 30 I call. River is a 10 and makes 3 clubs on board, he bets out 60 and think for like half a minute before calling and he shows me k10 and I scoop the pot. I prob could have gotten more if I raised and played the aces strong on the flop but I've lost my whole stack with aces many times and I decided to play it slow. The guy only had like 30 behind after the pot anyway so no biggie. The next hand that was interesting I picked up AK in the sb. Guy from Switzerland in cutoff raises to 20 preflop, I just call in sb and limper from mid pos. calls and we see a flop. Flop comes k32 rainbow, I check, mid pos. checks and swiss guy pushes all in for 140(lol). So i thought for a little while cause i wasn't really worried about him but there was a guy behind me, who was the second best player at the table, so i gave it a minute. I called and the guy behind me folds and said he also had a king but lower kicker. Guy shows down aq for stone bluff and I have him drawing nearly dead as he needed runner runner straight and I take town another pot. Now I'm up about 350, and then I seemed to not get any hands for awhile when I picked up the dreaded JJ. About 5 people already limped in and i pumped it up to 17 from the sb. 3 people call and the flop comes 553 with two clubs. I lead out with 20 and get one caller from an Asian dude who looks like Hideki Matsui, turn was another 5(at this point I really think I'm good and I put the guy on a 3 or pocket 667788991010) so I bet out 30 and he calls. River was a 9 and I bet out 50 and he raised another 75 more. This shocked me as I really thought I was good. Now I could really only put him on two hands to make that raise and thats a5 or 99 and he got 9's full of 5's on riv. I was sitting there thinking for like 4 minutes before they called the clock on me and I eventually folded jj face up on the table. At this point about 3 donkeys at the table say "oh [censored], i would have called in two seconds with that hand." I ask Matsui what he had and he tells me a 3, which I obviously don't believe. A person cannot make a raise there with a 3 unless they have really lost their mind, why would they not just call if they think its good. Anyway I got it out of him about 10 minutes later that he had quad 5's which did not surprise me. That pretty much finished my night after like 10 capt'n and cokes and losing that pot I was ready to go back to the hotel. I ended the sess. up 200 so it was a good 1 for me even though it could have been more. So at like 4:30 am we called it a night and went to sleep.

The next day we wanted to wake up early and go back to the taj and get at least another 3-4 hours of play in before we had to go home. So we woke up at around 10:30, checked out of the hotel and enjoyed a bagel and oj at the econo lodge continental breakfast(who knew). Headed back over to the taj and jumped on the 1-2 NL again.

Unlike last night, this time i drew a much tighter table with some good players. There were two interesting hands in this session, 1 i lost and 1 i won. I'll do the one I won first. I picked up 10-7s in early pos. and limp in, wouldn't have done this on last nights table cause there was a lot more raising, but this table there seemed to be a lot of limp pots and small raises to 6 or 10 so I did. About 8 people in the hand and the flop comes 1077, cha-ching jackpot, I check and the whole table checks, next card is a 2 clubs which makes two clubs out there. Guy from sb bets out 10 and i just call setting the trap and hoping he hits a flush or some [censored], everyone else folds. River was the 3 of clubs and he bets out 25, easy decision to push him all in which was about 100 total, so I did and he called with 7-5 clubs. So he flopped trips, slow played it like me, and the hit runner runner flush to improve his hand and meanwhile he was drawing dead the whole time. Just a lucky situation for me and an unlucky one for that guy. The losing hand I had was i picked up aq under the gun and limped and we had another limp pot with about 7-8 people. Flop comes a94 with two spades, i check, and old lady on button bets 15, I minraise to 30, she instacalls. Turn is the q of spades, which is a really horrible card. I stare her down and realize that she is grabbing for her chips immediately and didn't realize I was first to act, so after seeing that I check and she goes all in for 130. I think for like 3 minutes before dumping top two. She then tells me she had the flush, which is great for me to hear. I payed for a little while longer and when i quit I ended up $100 this session. So all in all it was a good trip, finished up $300, in my opinion played great, made some great laydowns and won some money. My buddy also won like $125, so it was a good 1 for the both of us. That's it, if you read this, I like some feedback on some of those hands that I played and what some other people's thoughts were.

pretty bad way to play AA man...

I also find it odd that you don't raise AA from the button or AK from the SB, but raise with JJ from the SB into 5 others. You gotta raise each of these.

With your AQ, you probably should raise, even from UTG preflop. I don't like the check and min-check raise either. Either bet out first, or raise for more.

Glad you were up though.

Thanks for the input...The AA hand was questionable in that I could have raised him at some point. The way I play is more of a trapping style, instead of re-raising before the flop, unless theres 5 people in the pot and I have JJ, then I like to thin the field.

By check min-raising with the AQ I can see where my opponent is in the hand, and then if no spade on turn punish with a big bet, but I however want to see the turn before I commit big bet that I know the person will call on flop if they have a flush draw, but if they miss on turn they will likely fold.

you seem rather tight, i would also just call the JJ hand, since to many villains(especially fish who you said he was) think there nines are now good(A9 or so), a 5 would be very hard to believe, i always think when i run into quads with 3 cards on the board, thats a cooler, but often he doesn´t have it so your play is EV+.

i would definatly call there with the jacks. AQ is very hard to fold, nice one i geuss.

The problem with this is that the vast majority of bad live players are way too loose/passive. Trapping them doesn't really work. Value-betting is the key to raking in the cash in these games.

To the original poster: seriously man, shorter paragraphs. Just looking at that text gives me a headache.
