I like the first one if you're not going overboard cbetting into 3 people. Second hand is uber standard if you aren't going to play a big pot unless you flop 2p or better.

you have no idea. I saw him drop about 50 dollars while i was there. He'd buy in for 5, get busted, rebuy for 5, get busted... I stacked him about 4 times.

While that small raise is "building the pot" if you hit, the vast majority of the time you aren't going to hit and are simply losing money, since that pf raise isn't large enough to get anyone else to fold or gain any respect.

[/ QUOTE ]

You don't want anyone to fold here and you don't want respect. The only thing you want is to sweeten the pot. These types of raises are fine from time to time. Your odds of hitting a set are 1 in 8.5 or 11%, which is not "the vast majority of the time." A small raise here increases the chances of winning a big pot when we hit.

The play is OK, but he shouldn't do this every time. If a decent opponent does this at my table I can narrow their range pretty well (mid PP or SC usually).

Please explain your definition of vast majority.

As you said, 89% of the time you are not hitting this flop.

To me "vast majority" implies something at least greater than 95%, perhaps more.
