Within Temptation.

Led by the beautiful Sharon den Adel, this band from the Netherlands calls themselves Symphonic Rock. I agree.

They have cool videos as well.

memories : a little soft.

angels : more rocking.

stand my ground.

There's a McLachlan song at the end of Buffy Season 2 that destroys me every time. Other than that, I don't know anything about her.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's another one at the end of Season 6, but those two songs are the only two I know from her.

My favorite choice is Kasey Chambers. I don't know exactly how to describe her other than to say that she's somewhat country and somewhat...not, so I'll just post this link.

Default Voice of the Beehive

Voice of the Beehive

Voice of the Beehive were California sisters Tracy Bryn and Melissa Brooke Belland, and over the course of their three albums in the late 80's to mid-90's, no one wrote better pure pop songs.

Pop is often a much-maligned genre, as it's usually the more commercial, and therefore "least important" music on the landscape. However, writing a perfect pop song is no easy task - and Voice of the Beehive were masters at it.

Their music is distinctly jangly guitars, glorious harmonies, and witty, sharp lyrics that almost get over-looked by their retro-60's, radio-friendly sound.

Their three albums are:

Let it Bee

Honey Lingers

and

Sex & Misery

Some samples:

Don't Call Me Baby

Monsters & Angels
(their only song that charted in the U.S.)

I Walk the Earth

Voice of the Beehive were quite popular in england and had many hits there. In the U.S., they were big on college radio and alternative stations but their brand of campy, ironic pop never really broke through.

The Beat of Love (live)

So Hard

I Say Nothing

Perfect Place

I think they often get over-looked because of their goofy videos, but putting on one of their CDs as you're tooling down the highway, getting high on great lyrics, soaring harmonies, and jingle-jangly guitars is a blast. Perfect Pop.

A double bill because I just so happened to see them both at the same show. Once again. The music on their CDs do not do them justice.

Sabrina Taylor.

Gifted with a wonderful voice. Her youtube stuff is all about her personality.

myspace : with a few good songs.

Lindsey Yung

From San Diego. Another beautiful voice. She is just awesome live.

myspace

becoming

every breath video : an awesome song.

So, I stumbled on a new (to me) girl for this thread just a few minutes ago. Unfortunately, I can't find a YouTube of her singing the song that turned me on to her. Anyway, the woman's name is Rickie Lee Jones, and her song "Trouble Man" is absolutely hot. Unfortunately, the only link to it I have is a 30 sec preview clip from emusic.com, but it's the best I can do:

Trouble Man

She has a neat cover of Steely Dan's Show Biz Kids on that same album.

I didn't dig the other stuff of hers quite as much, but Chuck E's In Love was pretty interesting, too.
