HU Strategy, convo with frappeboy
[22:23] FrappeGirl: i only played for about an hour, i won $100
[22:23] Beer$$: oh, i just went and gave my chef my menu [22:23] Beer$$: that's cool [22:23] FrappeGirl: your menu?? haha [22:23] FrappeGirl: how much u gonna pay her [22:23] Beer$$: i played for 5 minutes on UB and lost 400 to BIGDONATOR [22:24] Beer$$: dud [22:24] FrappeGirl: haha DUDE [22:24] Beer$$: dude [22:24] Beer$$: HE was owning so much [22:24] FrappeGirl: do you have hold'em for advanced players [22:24] Beer$$: he was starting to play well [22:24] FrappeGirl: ? [22:24] Beer$$: you know, like he wasn't even having to suck out... we were just giving him the money or something [22:24] FrappeGirl: do you have that book? [22:25] Beer$$: yes [22:25] FrappeGirl: this relates to BIGDONATOR [22:25] Beer$$: i 've been reading [22:25] Beer$$: it [22:25] FrappeGirl: i just read the shorthanded section [22:25] Beer$$: dude [22:25] FrappeGirl: i want you to read that part and then IM me when i get back from getting food [22:25] Beer$$: SH HE nothing like SH stud [22:25] FrappeGirl: and think about how it relates to BIGDONATOR [22:25] Beer$$: dude [22:25] Beer$$: there's no blinds in stud [22:25] Beer$$: ive read it recently [22:26] FrappeGirl: i know but when your opponent raises 3rd he is still getting a certain price [22:26] Beer$$: of course [22:26] FrappeGirl: like lets say you're playing 2-4 4 handed, there is $2 in the pot and his raise to $2 he has to win 50% of the time to break even [22:26] Beer$$: yup [22:26] Beer$$: that means [22:26] Beer$$: you'd have to have a VERY [22:26] Beer$$: wide range [22:26] Beer$$: not to be profitable [22:26] Beer$$: BUT!! [22:26] FrappeGirl: so to combat someone who raises with any 3 cards to start there [22:27] FrappeGirl: you should call with like the top 66% of your hands [22:27] Beer$$: uhmm.. [22:27] FrappeGirl: or re-raise [22:27] Beer$$: i don't know, man [22:27] Beer$$: i think he's entitled to +EV [22:27] Beer$$: cause he's not the bring in [22:27] FrappeGirl: well if you call with under 50% of your hands he makes a profit [22:27] Beer$$: ya [22:27] FrappeGirl: maybe but what if his upcard is like 1 higher than yours [22:28] FrappeGirl: but i think im playing too tight there [22:28] Beer$$: ya [22:28] Beer$$: me too [22:28] FrappeGirl: like if i have (KQ)2 and he raises with a 7 [22:28] FrappeGirl: i should probably play and maybe even re-raise [22:28] Beer$$: playing tight is ok if they'll [censored] up later [22:28] FrappeGirl: well you are just getting yourself in more +EV situations [22:29] Beer$$: but [22:29] Beer$$: FRappe [22:29] FrappeGirl: i mean even if they do [censored] up later, playing (KQ)2 may still be right [22:29] Beer$$: like we talked about before [22:29] FrappeGirl: this is how SuperStar plays dude [22:29] Beer$$: you could make a lot of FTOP errors folding on fifth [22:29] Beer$$: if your AQxyz is still best [22:29] FrappeGirl: well thats why you need to re-raise a lot [22:29] FrappeGirl: and take the lead [22:29] Beer$$: BUT!!! [22:29] Beer$$: if its BIGDONATOR [22:30] Beer$$: and he's a relentless calling station [22:30] Beer$$: wtf do you do? [22:30] FrappeGirl: you still play those hands [22:30] Beer$$: they aren't just ag [22:30] Beer$$: they're stubborn [22:31] FrappeGirl: well what i need to do is sit down and figure out how often you get a pair, 3 flush, etc [22:31] FrappeGirl: and then start adding better hands to that until i reach certain percentages of hands im defending there [22:31] Beer$$: ya [22:31] Beer$$: we could start a thread if you're interested [22:31] FrappeGirl: yeah maybe but right now i gotta go get some food im ready to pass out [22:32] Beer$$: hey [22:32] Beer$$: go get some food, ima hit the hay [22:33] FrappeGirl: ok later man |

Re: HU Strategy, convo with frappeboy
One thing you need to realize is you aren't just running hot and cold simulations. There is a round of betting for every card. And when your opponent has a higher door card there are lots of scary cards he can catch and will force you to fold or give you huge reverse implied odds. But of course you need to change your starting requirements.

Re: HU Strategy, convo with frappeboy
IMHO the key is raising more hands, not "playing more" hands. Even against someone who will call you too much.

Re: HU Strategy, convo with frappeboy
Both are equally important. In a heads up match, raising will not regain the equity lost by folding too often.
