Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
I doubt someone would risk their job or 50c. It was probably a mistake, but who knows. I'd lean towards disputing the charge with your bank/CC company. You may get a meal out of it and if it wasn't a mistake the waiter/waitress will hear about it and get the point.

Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
Just knock 50 cents off his tip next time you are there.
Or knock 75 cents off his tip to cover the "interest" Problem solved, no big deal. |

Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
50 cents is peanuts. He wouldn't risk his job to do this to people all day. If there is a .5% chance he gets called out on it, is it worth $.50 to go through the hassle? Let it go. If he does it next time, it's a different matter...

Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
If it's just 50 cents, it's so little that I'm willing to chalk it up to a mistake unless it happens again.
Assuming the best of people when it's no skin off your nose (and 50 cents isn't) makes life a lot easier and less stressful. |

Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
people do this and get busted for it... someone i worked with would do this and ended up getting caught and had stolen like 6 grand over the course of a year, it's not a petty fifty cents if you think he's doing it intentionally and to others as well it is your responsibility to report him to the owner/managers of the joint.

Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
The numbers I posted are correct, I have the receipt. I usually figure out what 15% would be and then do my rounding up from there (so it usually works out a little more). Obviously since I have the receipt I would win any sort of challenge but if it takes moer than 5 minutes out of my life (which it probably would) it's not worth it for .50 (unless done purely for the principal)
I've challenged a thing on my debit card before (successfully) but that time it was like $14 and I had to fill out a form and send in a fax of the receipt and it took like 2 weeks to get the money. So I don't think I'll challenge it but my point still stands, this guy could do this all day and let's break it down 1. Most people would not even notice 2. Of those that notice, most would not care 3. Of those that care, most would think it's a mistake 4. Of those that think it wasn't a mistake, most will not go through the hassel So basically it's the whole "steal really small from alot of different people and nobody will notice" angle (Office Space, Superman 3) |

Re: Indignant over 50 cents, what\'s my play
I think you should just call the manager and explain what happened. Make it clear you don't care about the 50 cents but that he might want to check that the waiter doesn't do it to EVERY customer. If it's an honest mistake, no harm no foul, if not, the waiter is a thief and deserves to get caught.
