They've been talking up Morris like he's good. He looks like he sucks.

Not sure if this has been discussed in this thread, but any idea why the sox have Drew batting leadoff?

Historically he has been pretty decent at getting on base. Who else could bat there for them?

Also, he hits a lot of ground balls so it helps keep him from hitting into DPs.

he's better in basically every way than the other guys we've been hitting leadoff (crisp, lugo), other than speed (and he's not slow).

OBP (2007)

drew: .350
crisp: .291
lugo: .270

this is the most important quality in a leadoff man - get on for papi, manny and youks.

I would still like to see Youk and Pedroia lead off, but I'm OK with Drew getting some burn. As long as it's not Lugo.

I came to this thread specifically to ask if we can just take Mike Timlin out behind the bullpen and put him down. I'm sorry. He's just totally ineffective. In his 13 or so appearances this year, he's given up at least one hit in all but 2 of them. That's pathetic. Give him his money, thank him for all he has done for the Red Sox (I do like the guy), and send him on his way. I'd rather groom Delcarmen/Hansen than have Timlin get older by the game.

neither delcarmen or hansen are ready right now, i'd rather let timlin continue to suck in low-lev situations and drop him when we're ready than let delcarmen / hansen suck and screw up their heads again. when they're a little more ready not to suck, that's when we drop timlin.
