Re: Incredibly stupid question regarding clothing/weddings.
I'm sure it could be a southern thing, but of the weddings I've been attending lately, whether daytime or nighttime, indoor or outdoor, if you aren't wearing a suit you're getting some scandalized stares.

Re: Incredibly stupid question regarding clothing/weddings.
[ QUOTE ]
You really are not required to wear a suit or even a sportscoat at a wedding. [/ QUOTE ] Saying this implies that if you had nothing else to go on, that you are completely justified in showing up to someone's wedding in just a shirt and slacks - which is very wrong. The last wedding I went to, there was exactly one guy who wasn't wearing a suit and he stood out like a sore thumb - the rest of the guys were split about 70-30 between suits and tuxes. On the other hand, at my sister's wedding I wore a hawaiian shirt, which was her specific request (it was a beach wedding of sorts). Plenty of people have more casual weddings, but I really don't think it's correct to say that the standards have changed. If I had a traditional wedding and you showed up in just a shirt and tie, I'd feel insulted. |

Re: Incredibly stupid question regarding clothing/weddings.
The upshot of all this, Klompy, is that wearing a suit is 100%, DrewDevil guaranteed to be correct and appropriate. Wearing anything else might be "okay" or "what most other people are wearing," but you might insult the bride or stick out like a sore thumb. The choice is yours.

Daver's right. Being overdressed is significantly better than being underdressed. It might even get you laid.

I really doubt they'll be offended. |

Wear a suit and tie. If you're overdressed, take the suit jacket off and hang it on your chair.

Also, I think once you're over 18 wearing a tie and no jacket should be forbidden. [/ QUOTE ] Dear god yes. If you're not wearing a jacket, do NOT wear a tie. I never mind being overdressed, but if you get there and you're uncomfortable about it, ditch the tie and NOT the jacket. |
