why omaha hi/lo over high

Is there any particular reason more people are playing hi/lo omaha than just omaha hi?

Pardon my ignorance if there's an obvious reason that i havent stumbled across yet, but so far i've only played omaha hi as its the only game out of the two that i could understand just by watching a couple hands....i have no clue whats happening in hi/lo (amdittedly i havent researched it too much as the thought of sharing a pot with someone after playing the whole hand hoping to win it doesnt appeal to me)

Anyway just wondering what the fuss with hi/lo is? thanks

Some people say the variance is lower and you can get by with a smaller bankroll. I find the game to be as exciting as watching grass grow but most players are very bad and seem to love giving their money away.

So what you saying is they either want to win a little or lose a little?

If thats the case i wont even bother trying to learn it until the omaha hi games completely dry up cos i like having the opportunity to win a lot of money with the right plays and if i lose a lot due to bad play or being sucked out on then so be it, i'll just have to improve in that case

I hear that limit omaha hi.lo is groing at an impressive rate, especially in the north east. More people playing the game usually translates into more bad people playing the game.

I personally started playing Pot Limit omaha Hi.lo then switched to PLO hi because I wanted to learn a game that I would have some chance of playing at the casino. Eventually I fell in love with the game in its own merits and have basically abandoned other forms of poker.

The variance in hi/lo is much lower because there are many split pots, that is, if you have a scoop on the turn, and then get out-drawn or counterfitted on the river, you will often not lose 100% of the pot but only half.

I've been playing mostly limit omaha after trying all the different forms of poker that party has to offer and it just seems to fit my style of play i guess, just a pitty there arent too many players the times i'm on....maybe its because i'm in the UK and our peak time to play doesnt match up with the american peak time

Another bummer is that when i do decide to move up it seems that there even less and less games available, so i'm just kinda wondering if its even worth getting into only to be stuck at microlimits due to lack of players....Which is a pitty cos i think most limit holdem players would enjoy the game but maybe they havent given it a shot due to only seeing holdem limit and NL on TV

The issue may be PLO vs LO. Almost nobody who's any good at Omaha likes playing it with fixed limits. Omaha HL however plays quite well as a limit game, in fact from what I've seen it is the preferred format for higher stakes. PLO8 and NLO8 tables dry up at pokerstars (my primary site) above the 100/200 buyin level but limit games are always going at all levels.

Anybody know if its a good idea to bonus whore while playing omaha hi seen as tho u end up in more pots at omaha than holdem?....(well in my short experience at least)

Just so that we're clear, it's limit Omaha Hi/lo that is always going at all levels at stars. Limit Omaha Hi is usually totally dead at stars except for the occasional 5 cent table (or the like).

this last bit is it with all the H/L players I know. It's a very intricate game (like omaha) and like omaha there are tons of people who play it without understanding the basics. You can also play it with a much smaller bankroll, and, well, it's fun.

Omaha 8 has much less variance than Omaha high. Also Omaha high is not a good play in the Limitform.
