Default I am staying at El Cortez...how bad is it?

Yes, I am ashamed.

But anyways my brother and I are going to Vegas for the first week of March Madness. This is usaully a whole family trip with our dad and uncles going and putting us up in a room. However, they are not going this year so we had to get our own room and we are both cheap so we ended up booking a room at El Cortez for the 4 nights.

I have heard some bad things but on CheapoVegas.com or whatever it is called the review wasnt that bad. Can someone who has stayed there fill me in on how bad it truly is?

It's not that bad, really, as far as the rooms go. The rooms are clean and you have everything you need. They are kind of smallish, but I think you are not going to spend much time in your room anyway, right? If you have ever stayed in Motel 6, you have a good comparison.

However, the neighborhood and casino patrons is another thing...

I am not to worried about room size as it will be used just for passing out. Also, we will be going down to the strip everyday anyways either by cab or car we are bringing so I am not to worried about casino or patrons.

I've heard El Cortez referred to as a hostel so I imagined the worst. I figured a dirty, infested room...haha. You said they were clean so that is pretty much good enough for me.

The El Cortez is Great! I like to stay there when ever I can. The rooms are clean. The water that comes out of the shower is hot. What more do you need?

And the casino patrons are like a free show! Old School Vegas BABY! A good shock treatment to see what could happen to you if you become a degenerate gambler.

And who is complaining about the neighborhood. What little wussies! Stay Home! The El Cortez is a whole two blocks down a commercial street from the canopy of the downtown Experience. You little scardy-cats could probably run that far without having a heart attack.

Besides, you can play $1 single deck blackjack. Tip the waitress a buck, she will make sure you never run dry!

>>>> The only complaint I have is that in some of the rooms, the shower head is like 4 feet high. Suitable for a midget to take a shower, but a normal size person has to bend over to shower.

As a pretty small female you might understand that I fear the neighborhood and that the showers were never an issue for me

OP said it was two males. In your case, I would not go unescorted anyplace within 100 miles of Las Vegas.

Have the prices shot up that much???? When I stayed there I payed 43$ for two nights (Sat-Mon, so one weekend night). I guess you really are spending it big and going for the EC tower room. The ones above the casino are the cheapest. The funny thing about those is that they have no elevator, you just go up some stairs in the casino.

Nice job catching me on the "pretty" part. When I stayed there, the big "W" still had an amazing single deck 3:2 blackjack game going, which any idiot could've counted. So I went in the wrong direction, hence my comment on the neighborhood. If you are going the Fremont Street Experience direction I would not worry.

Small question, though. For those prices, I think you can get cheaper at places like the 4Queens and comparable. Have you tried Travelaxe?
