Gah, I live here in Tucson and never been to either of the card rooms, has anybody played in any of the heartland poker tours? Are they run by the HPT or by the casinos themselves? How well are they run? I think I need to play these.

They are run by both (the Casino and the HPT officials), and IMO, they (the HPT) put on a good tournament.

The have huge jackpots for the GPs (lowest I've ever seen was 49k for first place), and they normally have big turn outs.

I've played in 2 of them, and both were well run, though with the one here in Denver (Blackhawk really), the local casino here, they handed out 'acting out of turn' penaties like they were candy, and tried to say it was because of the HPT.

I found this was NOT the case, when I sent to Deadwood this past weekend, and the casino there didn't hand out even ONE penalty, for acting out of turn.

In any case, depending on how I do this weekend in the WSOPCE in Caesars Indiana (if I cash), I just might be there in Tucson for this.

If so, hope to see ya there!

Picture of me here (though not a good one, but then again, what woman thinks any picture of herself is a good one, right?):

This is only a few weeks away, and I was curious if anyone from here was planning on going?

When I thnk of the word 'heartland', Tucson doesn't come to mind. But it would be a nice getaway in December or January. But in MN in Nov, I don't really want to go to a dump town like Tucson. It's not really a poker metropolis. I'd rather go to vegas and play a tourny at the Venetian instead.

Even if you had a chance to appear on Television?

Personally, I think where the WSOP missed the boat on their Circuit events, is that they have never found someone else to televise those events, after their contract expired with ESPN for the WSOPCEs.

I've been to to two Heartland Poker Events (which I'm guessing, the name reflects where the event first started out, in the Heartland of the USA), and they really do put on a good showing, at least at the two I attended (Blackhawk (Denver), Colorado, and Deadwood, SD).

The money is good as well.

It's a good mid range event IMO, and the chance to be on TV, only adds to that mix.

The only time you can have the chance to be on TV in Vegas, is if the WPT is in town, or the end of the WSOP for a given year.

Just something to consider, if you are thinking of attending a HPT event.

P.S. BTW, we had many people who flew in from Vegas to the Blackhawk HPT event last month ... so Vegas must not have THAT big of an attraction, if these people were willing to come to Colorado, land of no fold 'em hold 'em, and even lesser reasons poker wise (for live action) because of the 5 buck max bet here, than Tucson has.

I called the casino, 800-344-9435, and asked the operator, and was told that you have to be 21 yrs of age to play at their casino.

I know what the HPT is. It started up here in MN.

I'm just saying I'd rather go to an HPT event in Gary, IN
rather than a small market event like AZ.

Doesn't seem to be a big response to this thread compared to the Colorado thread, so perhaps others agree.

Hey Deborah I played the HPT event in denver as well!!! As a matter of fact I just saw your pic you posted and realised that we actually talked a little on the elevator. Small world. I took 27th (just inside the money) for $2,700. I enjoyed it a lot. Yes they were handing out out of turn buttons like crazy but it didn't bother me as i am sick of players not obeying rules and it really is not enforced to well here. I have played the WSOP too and enjoyed it and will play again but it was nice of heartland to find a way to bring a bigger buy-in event here to CO.

i enjoyed it and will be back when they host the next one in april but i have no plans to play other heartland events around at this time.

Del Sol is just the wrong place to hold the event. They should have done it at Casino AZ. Likely it would already be sold out if they did.
