That kind of raise always seems like it comes from someone who's afraid to lose with JJ or TT...I think it's "easy" to put the guy on AA because that's what was on TV

It was a marginal call, at best, by Farha

Most people won't raise 20bb with a hand that can be so easily dominated.

AA or KK

His mistake was that he didn't bet enough? 20bb? What exactly is a standard opening raise for you with Aces?!

[/ QUOTE ]

It would depend on my position, but generally I like to make sure at least 90% of my stack is in there preflop with AA just so he doesn't get his implied odds. If I'm in the CO or the Button, I'll take advantage of position and shove it in PF. Obviously that's what Mr. Curtis should've done.

LOL!!!!!!

The first time I saw Anthony Curtis was some TLC program. Something about how to make $100 per day in Vegas. It was basically an hour-long ad for his newsletter. He wanders around with some woman from Minnesota, showing her the ropes. It goes something like this:

They start off at one casino and cash in a voucher for a free $5 hand of blackjack. They both lose the hand, but they're up $5 on the day because it wasn't their money. Then they hit up another casino and get a free hand after playing a hand. A little later they use vouchers for free hot dogs if they play a certain number of hands of blackjack. $3.99 profit (the value of the hot dog?)

At one point he finds a quarter on the floor and says 'this goes into our profit for the day.'

So by the end of the day they've met their goal of $100
11.00 profit from playing table games
85.00 value of vouchers they've cashed in (most are for a free hand of BJ or free spin on money wheel)
00.25 found quarter
15.00 value of room discount for booking through his newsletter

I could be wrong, but I think he was also teaching the woman how to count cards and said 'the count is high, so the chances of the dealer having a ten are lower and we should stand.'

Even if he's a passing BJ player (and even possibly a "math guy," which seems highly unlikely) it doesn't mean he knows squat about how to play tournament poker.

FWIW...and not that it makes losing that early in the tourney with AA suck any less but Curtis won that WSOP seat in an online qualifier on a Prima skin for less than $40. That site at the time had probably the most underfunded weekly guaranteed satellites into the main event. They gave away a seat every Sunday for nine weeks straight. The buyin for thirty something and was not even a rebuy/addon event and it never attracted more than about 110 players any week. I got in on the tail end of it but was never able to make it any further than just making the final table. So Curtis may not be at the skill level of a pro poker player but he is a smart gambler and did win the buyin cheap.
