Can MMA supplant boxing at some point in the future?

supplant boxing as what? a sport that nobody cares about anymore?

I have no idea, but MMA PPV fees might already exceed boxing PPV fees

ESPN has recently namedropped MMA/UFC on a couple of their roundtable shows (PTI, etc.) and they will probably start covering the sport legitimately in the future.

I think this is going to turn out really nicely. There are going to be some upset Pride fans though, because they are changing to UFC rules (no soccer kicks or knees to the head, elbows ok), but they are still keeping the ring.

Dana White's been trying to get NSAC to allow knees to the head, so hopefully that will change soon.

I like knees to the head, but I think having a unified set of rules is better for the sport of MMA - different boxing organizations don't have different rules. Plus, as much as I sometimes dislike the 10-point must system it is a cut above the open-ended Japanese system.

Whether or not it's a cut above the Japanese system, it cuts down on action.

They do. UFC grossed over $200M in PPV fees last year. However, the largest boxing PPVs exceed the largest UFC buys.

Not only do different organizations have different rules, but every state has different rules.

I can't stand the 10 point must system for MMA. The judges are too conservative in awarding 10-8 rounds.
