Kimbo Slice vs. Mercer 6/23

Yes that Kimbo Slice of internet-backyard-bareknuckle-"bread"-video fame is making his first sanctioned MMA fight against former heavyweight champion 46 year old "Merciless" Ray Mercer.

I am all about Kimbo Slice in this one, but I got a funny feeling people will be asking questions if this fight was a work/fix. Remember this fight is an MMA rules fight with takedowns and submissions allowed.

Mercer is a champ who has been in the ring with Holyfield, Wlad Kiltschko, and Lennox Lewis and most recently Shannon Briggs (in 2005). Mercer is known for having one of the best jabs in boxing history and have a strong chin, but Shannon Briggs KO'ed him 7 rounds which I didn't see coming. I think Mercer is shot he just showing up for the paycheck.

Kimbo on the other hand has been working out with Bas Rutten. Kimbo has be working on cardio and actually MMA manuevers (GnP, subs, kicks).

Kimbo is going off at -180. I think number is so generous. Kimbo should be close to -250, but everyone is just concerned about him since its his professional MMA debut, but he is fighting a 46 year old exclusive boxer.

I just someone tells Kimbo to keep his chin down and left hand up and he will win.

Mercer is a joke. The fight starts at 3:50 and ends about 10 seconds later. (Not a rickroll)

Crowd chants for Kimbo. Mercer comes out to "Momma Said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J. Mixed cheers and boos for Mercer but most people want to see Kimbo. Kimbo comes out to "This Is Why I'm Hot", clearly showing Melvin Guillard's cultural influence. Everyone is on their feet. Cheers drown out boos when Mercer is announced, but the crowd is erupting for Kimbo. They only announce him as "Kimbo" without the Slice. What happened? They jaw a bit during the standoff, crowd is on fire.

Round 1

Kimbo charges in, goes right for a takedown. Mercer grabs the cage but he goes down. Mercer up, they fight in the clinch. Big knees by Kimbo land. Mercer strikes but Kimbo answers with a combo and gets a double leg. Kimbo fighting, gets Mercer in to a choke. Mercer taps. Kimbo Slice wins by guillotine choke submission in round 1.

I feel so stupid. I didnt bet on this fight, despite everything I know telling me to bet Kimbo.

I saw Mercer come in with a good weight and pussed out thinking that most the information coming in was from the internet which favors Kimbo and which he is remarkably good at marketing to.

I should have bet against Mercer once I saw the name of his MMA school. Yet he was just another washed up boxer looking for a payday.

Of course, the guy who trained right, took him down and choked him out.

When Holyfield signs a deal, someone PM and I will make the right bet..
