OOT - help me plan my vacation, tips and advice needed.

I am leaving on October 13th for a trip and I need some advice if there are people who have been to any of these places. Tips as to where to stay, what to do, and where to eat would be appreciated. I will have some more specific questions at the end as well.

Ok, so we (my wife and I and a friend) are flying from Dulles to Vienna to:

SARAJEVO




From there we take the train to:

DUBROVNIK




Then into:

ALBANIA




On to the specific questions.

Can I rent a car and take it across multiple countries, especially into Albania? Would this be unwise considering most Albanians have learned to drive in the last decade and have a reputation as terrible drivers?

Should I book everything in advance, or should I negotiate a place to stay upon arrival?

Is Albania worth visiting? We were going to go along the coast of Albania and back through Montenegro and Macedonia.

Any experiences would be appreciated.

i've not been to these places, but a good friend recently travelled those parts in April. He found that public transport [trains/planes/buses] was sufficient to get around and he could organise accommodation easily enough when he got there.

For the sake of comfort and convenience you could book digs for the first and last nights, but otherwise, no trouble.
