Re: Johnny Chan = Douche
Not that I'm defending Chan in this situation, but I find it funny that McCutter would defend Helmuth to the death yet berate Chan for this. LOL

Re: Johnny Chan = Douche
[ QUOTE ]
The impression I have is that in your avg B&M this might get you a 20 minute time out. At the commerce I think it's gets your dinner comped. [/ QUOTE ] I play in a place that's somewhere in-between a raked homegame and full fledged underground cardroom (if it ran every day of the week I'd give it the underground cardroom nod). 1/2 NL cash game. One of our louder regular players started to go on monkey tilt and finally blew off his third or forth buy-in on a horrible call on the river where he could only beat a bluff. He stood up, ripped up his cards and stormed out of the building swearing never to play there again. The manager calmly got out a new deck, and when Mr. Tiltmonkey returned about two and a half minutes later, took the three hundred bucks he pulled out of his pocket and gave him more chips without a word about the ripped up cards. And none of us there found it at all shocking...highly entertaining yes, rather profitable, of course, but not shocking. --Zetack |

Re: Johnny Chan = Douche
Getting a little off topic of Chan=Douche, but that would not fly at my underground game.
When the player said he would never play again, the owner would have said good riddance. He definitely could not have played again that night. If he begged and agreed never to do it again, the player could probably come back at a later time, but he would have to apologize to the others and be on his best behavior. Another incident would mean permanent ban. Of course, he's not Johnny Chan and the place isn't the Mirage. I think underground rooms have to have a little more security and less patience for player misbehavior, because they are outside the law and can't afford any physical altercations. |

Re: Johnny Chan = Douche
Wrong - destroying cards is typically a 30 min timeout in AC. If it could be seen as "an accident" it is often overlooked with a warning that the next time will result in a 30 minute timeout. I've never seen anyone get tossed for destroying cards once.
Now, if someone picked up the remaining stub and tossed them in the air like 52-card pick-up, he would probably be asked to leave. Jeff |

Re: Johnny Chan = Douche
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Oooh he ripped up a deck of cards! What a douchebag! Seriously who cares? He didn't call anybody names or hit somebody, and this incident doesn't really say anything about his character. Besides, this is like the first incident I can recall of him doing anything of the sort, and he has been a well known player for the past 20 years. [/ QUOTE ] Um...I don't advocate barring him from the building, but this behavior is douchey beyond comprehension. [/ QUOTE ] What? He had a bad beat and wented his frustration on a deck of cards. That's like a million times classier than whining to the dealer or the other players, both of which happen all the time. Sometimes you have to let the steam out and I think it is much better that he rips a couple of cards (and humours fellow players with his silly antics) than goes home and kicks his cat. And OMG *dirty look*, wow. [/ QUOTE ] Ripping up cards is classier than other behaviors? Ripping up cards is a 0 on the class meter. So is yelling at the dealer. What makes you think ripping up cards is classier than anything? [/ QUOTE ] What makes me think so? Ripping up cards destroys a couple of dollars worth of material property that doesn't personally belong to any one of the table. It is not a personal attack directed at any player or the dealer. It's comparative to getting bad beated playing online and breaking your mouse. Only the mouse belongs to the casino, costs a lot less, and would have been destroyed in a couple of hours regardless. Ripping up cards = 3 douche points Yelling at the dealer = 12 douche points |

Re: Johnny Chan = Douche
I always thought begging for cards after getting it in preflop is as futile as blaming dealers for beats. Still happens......
