i'm always prepared to play for stacks

Let's make this a little more tangible:

Opponent is very aggro & 3bets a lot. He won't flatcall any hand he intends to play, exept maybe AA and KK. We both have 200 (NL200). I open to 8 from SB, he raises to 25.

You re-raising here, or waiting for a good flop? If waiting, what is a good flop? One that contains an Ace or is Ten-high, or something else?

[/ QUOTE ]

You knowing that he won't flatcall any hands he intends to play indicates to me that you also have other reads, including how he plays flops, turns, etc., etc. This is impossible to answer w/o any history or specific reads.

Well it's just standard to raise this hand here for obvious reasons. It's like, you get AA utg, what do you do? Well folding is not an option, calling is stupid, so you raise. Pretty much the same thing applies here. If you change our hand from ATo to a more marginal hand like 78o, I think you have some better discussion.

I'll look back on this thread tomoorow & think it's totally stupid too, I'm sure. I think I may actually be on tilt. A lot of times when I go on tilt I start looking inward like "Do you know what you're doing at all? I don't think so!" And then post something like this.

FWIW I can't recall the last time I didn't open ATo from the SB. Probably because I have never not openend.

Mods, lock me!

I kinda disagree the phrasing in the OP that makes this sound like a binary question.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure I understand this. Are you saying you want to know what range we open vs what range we fold vs those kinds of opponents?

[/ QUOTE ]

I was just wondering why you picked specifically ATo against some artibtrary opponent and asked 'is this raise EV?' instead of asking 'What's the lowest Ax I can raise here profitably?'

I'm guessing that you feel AT is the borderline Ax here for +EV pfr, and I think my play generally coincides with that. I guess I'm really contributing anything valuable though, sorry Grunch.

Nothing wrong with "why" questions with some of the things we do every day. Nothing at all. And no reason to insult people's playing abilities, ktx.
