He talks about how different umpires could call one pitch a strike and one a ball, how the wind can push down a ball that could be a home-run one day and how it could make a ball that wasn’t hit well a home-run the next day (D7).

[/ QUOTE ]

lol, this obviously produces enormous statistical deviations

[/ QUOTE ]

Explain? The point of showing that is more to show the short term luck of the game. In any given at-bat(which would statistically be as close to 1 hand as I can think of), luck can become a big factor. Many things have to go right for any player to get on base. Overall, throughout the game, skill starts to dominate, just like at the poker tables. But on any given day the better team can lose, and the same goes for the better players.

This was what i was thinking too. However, the deal breaker wasn't the fact that it was impractical, it was that i refuse to believe someone would put forth all that effort to move a car from Hawaii and get lazy when it comes to change the plates.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe they just moved?

Also, in order to register your car in Ontario it has to pass a safety and and emissions test. They may be waiting for their original registration to expire so as to put off doing that and having to make any repairs.

There's lots of people who move to/from Ottawa to/from Hull and wait as long as possible to change the registration.

They may get way better insurance rates through an American insurance company which will go away as soon as they change the registration.

If they're only in Ottawa for a short term (ie: diplomats) transporting the car may have been paid for by the government and they may not be staying long enough to warrant switching the registration.

[/ QUOTE ]

The infinite wisdom that is the Golden Duck thread. If someone else is footing the bill for the move, then the pieces start to fit together. Very nice reasoning.

BTW, how are diplomat plates identified in the states. It makes me laugh every time i see diplomat plates on a POS car. I bet when they signed up to be a diplomat, there was no mention of a Dodge Neon.

LOL.

You act like I am trying to point out that luck isn't a factor in poker? All I am doing is saying exactly that poker does have a huge short term luck factor. I am trying to give an analogy to say that other games of skill have short term luck to some degree as well.

I see no place where I say poker isn't a game of short term luck or anything to that matter, actually. Thanks for the naive comment whenever it actually has nothing to do with what I wrote, though. I don't say the Yankees win daily because of skill. I say that luck can play a factor in each day, and luck does play a factor every day in poker. This is what analogies are supposed to do I think. I guess if I said poker is like baseball because the Yankees win the games every day because of skill, then yes you might be making a relevant point.

P.S. Sorry for the sarcastic reply, I respect you as a poster but it looks like you didn't even remotely read anything I wrote but instead replied with something like I am trying to deny poker has luck when I never wrote anything like that, but actually completely opposite.

I've been playing 50NL all afternoon (usually play 25NL). WTF is up with all the min-raises pf? Across multiple tables with different opponents it's a min-raise fest all day long. I mean it's buck-wild.

Nice knowing you guys. I'm quitting poker now. I just misclicked off 80 BB in a donkament. Opened to 22222 instead of 2222 and had to call a shove. I was 1 of 82 going into that hand and 22 of 81 leaving it. Then I got on the gay end of 3 flips in 2 orbits and goodbye in 62nd. Now this in the $55 50k guaranteed.

I swear to god that you can add up all the cash beats I've ever taken and they are less painful than the top 10 tourney beats I've taken. This [censored] is beyond ridiculous.

Serious question. Is it possible to win money when you run bad for extended periods? I'm not talking about AI EV calcs. I'm really thinking that it doesn't matter how good you are. I'm running like [censored] right now and really don't think there is a single person that could run this bad and make money or even breakeven. Serious thoughts please.
