Default UNC Football Coach Bunting Fired

I watched last night's UVa game with a few other UNC alumns and we were disgusted. The team has hit rock bottom and is one of the five worst teams in D-1 football. Both Bunting and Torbush have not been able to carry the torch that Mack Brown lit while in Chapel Hill. My good friend in Pinehurst is a Rams Club member and shared this information with me today:

Coach Bunting was fired today by UNC systems president Erskine Bowles. The announcement will be made at a later date when the university and Bunting are ready, most likely before the Nov 18th N.C. State game. It may be spun as a resignation at that time. UNC has contacted the agents of Jimbo Fisher (LSU O-Cord), Rich Rodriquez (WVA Head Coach) and Paul Johnson (Navy Head Coach).

Good riddance. Bunting is a failure and he has five more games left with the team. The fball team needs to be more competitive than they are now and a new coach is step #1.

Have they ever had a good football team?

A UNC sophomore made a "lewd gesture" towards the UVa fans during warm-ups. Within 10 minutes Bunting had gotten in his face, sent him back to the locker room, and he was in street clothes for the entire game.

It's a shame having a quarterback who can only complete 30% of his passes cost this guy a job.

Weren't they pretty good when Mack Brown coached there (and Julius Peppers played)?

Yes. During one of Mack's years we played FSU at home in November and we were both ranked in the AP's top ten.

That was the only positive from last night. UNC will never have a "U" incident.

I can't believe they finally fired him. The last two years I thought he was gone, but came through with a win that saved his job (Miami, BC, two wins in a row vs State).

I figured that meant we'd beat Notre Dame this year.

Yeah, they started cracking the top 25 my freshman year, then I think they made it to #2 or 3 one year Peppers was there. But not sure, that was after my time.

Apparently Bunting was reeling in a great recruiting haul this year. I wonder how that will turn out now.

A thread on InsideCarolina (the Tar Pit forum) says that Bunting will finish out the year.

Yes. My OP states he has five more games left as coach.
