Default BJ tipping. Am I being a too cheap?

I really don't think I've ever been too cheap in regards to tipping but I think socal dealers might be getting spoiled or maybe I am too cheap.

This happened a few nights ago and after some drunken poker and losing my $15 min bet 4 times we all conclude I'm due and my dumbass friend who thinks he can count is saying it's good out loud (super dumbass) so I bet $500. And proceed to win 6 of 7 one of which is BJ. I slide the dealer 8 loose $5 chips I had left over and proceed to finish my drink and leave when I hear him grumble something about the tip. Note this is over a span of maybe 10-15 mins so IMO $40 for ~10 min of work is pretty good.

Don't know exactly what he said but even in my drunken state I knew he was complaining about the tip and he said something to the dealer pushing him. My friend almost went haywire but I just said let it go.

Then yesterday we plan on playing poker but of course I get sidetracked and play california BJ. It's really stupid where I can only bet 300 max at this table and must pay $1 for every $100 bet and my BJ only pays 6/5. Terrible game but it's BJ so I play. Again I lose some small pots and just bet bigger. I then go a little run and win 5 hands of $300. My friend grabs me to go get something to eat and I tip the 6 $5 chips I have.

Again a different Asian dealer complains about the tip in his native tougue which my friend understands. And later tells me about it over lunch. Maybe I am tipping too little but over the last month I've probably tipped over $500 in BJ tips alone. I'm thinking I might just save myself the thousands over the long haul of a year and not tip because it's pretty [censored] up to complain about any tip IMO unless the guy is tipping a nominal amount to spite the worker.

no its fine you tipping more than most people in the casino will tip them....i normally bet anywhere between 100-300 at a time on two hands and still only tip like $10 if i win a big hand and $25 if i win on a big double down that i shouldnt have won

most players never tip! even at the higher limits so dont let it get to you

which casino? i play at the bike because of their double deck bj

These were at Pechanga and HG although I've had similar experience with Commerce. Which BJ games are most favorable to the player? I would think if you knew how to count cards it would be very profitable as they give you the option to be the "bank/dealer" at most of the LA card rooms and with 2 decks it seems very +EV (although the $1 per 100 and the 2 or $3 to bank has to be fairly signif). Are the games in cal BJ games more favorable or less favorable than BJ in Vegas or an Indian Casino.

In some of the LA rooms they'll let you surrender after taking a hit and I think Penchanga doesn't let you surrender and Morongo does. It's never the same house rules at any of the socal casinos. LOL some even play with jokers as auto 21 lol.

Minor nit- this is the wrong forum

Second- don't tip them, make bets for them during your run. That doubles the results (or pyramids it, if you can manage it in your less lucid state) and will make it clearer how much you are tipping.

Third, any dealer that was that obvious about tip whining wouldn't get too many more. If they want to complain about getting 1-2% of your win, they might be getting too greedy.

I might have tipped more, but betting along with your streak at $5 or $10 would have resulted in a $50-100 win for the dealers. I don't think ANY dealer would dare complain if you'd putting out repeated bets for them.

I don't understand why anyone would give the dealer any percentage of their win -- unless the dealer is also going to give you a percentage of their win. The BJ dealer is your opponent -- they work for the house. They cannot help you. Their job is is to smile and entertain you while taking your money. I've seen players tip the dealer while they're winning -- play for an evening, drop a couple thousand and walk out broke while the dealers have a couple hundred locked up. What sense does that make?

I wouldn't tip a BJ dealer any more than I would tip my opponent at a poker table.

Craps dealers I tip -- because they can help me.

actually dealers want you to win. Sure they work for the house but it's not their money you are playing against so they are happy to see you win, and thus tip them. They get paid measly wages and rely on tips. But the attitude I can live without.

Of course they want you to win -- so you'll tip them. They want you to win, but they can't do anything about it. If you think paying for their karma is a good investment, go for it. If you're playing for recreation, tip and have fun. But if you're playing for a living, you'll never get there giving your money away.

i fully agree,,and years ago when i was homeless a lot in vegas, id lose money in tips, (not much) just like maybe $5 a nite in a low stakes poker game, leave BUSTED and wish desperately i had the $5 back cause i used to panhandle alot and it would take an hour or 2 to get $5 alotta times. i got thrown outta more than one casino cause the dealers hated me for not being a big tipper, although the house would always find an excuse and claim it was for anything else they could come up with.
