[ QUOTE ]
Hafner is a very defensible choice for DH.

Manny's not a defensible choice for LF.

[/ QUOTE ]
Manny's last 3 years WARP1, which attempts to account for defense:
2004: 6.6
2005: 6.8
and 2006 so far: 2.0
Bay's last 3 years:
2004: 4.9
2005: 9.8
2006: 2.3

Hafner:
2004: 6.7
2005: 7.2
2006: 2.8

Ortiz:
2004: 6.4
2005: 8.0
2006: 1.8

There is not a huge difference between any of these players. To say that Hafner is a defensible choice (which is clearly true) but say that Manny does not belong on the team makes no sense whatsoever.

For everyone on the board that thinks David Eckstein or Neifi Perez is a great clubhouse addition, how about we replace A-Rod with one of them? Would you feel okay with this?

I'd take Eckstein on my club any day of the week.

If you have anyone at DH other than Ortiz, you clearly haven't beern paying attention for the past 3 years.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can't stand the yankees, and i love Papi, but over the last six months of regular season(i.e. ever since he has been healthy) Giambi has been the better player by a decent margin.

This season, for the two most important offensive stats listed in order of importance: (ops/slug): Giambi (.481/.631); Papi (.362/.601).

2nd Half last season: Giambi (.453//604); Papi (.398/.626)

I think most defensive metrics have Edmonds rated far above Wells over the past couple of years.

Also, when he's fully healthy (which is rare, I admit), Edmonds is the better offensive players as well. He has quietly put up some big OPS numbers.

I would have no problem sending the best team in baseball:

C IRod
1b Shelton
2b Polanco
SS Guillen
3b Inge
LF Monroe
CF Granderson
RF Ordonez
DH Young

SP Rogers
LR Bonderman
SU Verlander/Zumaya
Cl Jones

[/ QUOTE ]

Why did you list a bunch of Detroit Tigers

Sorry, A-Rod plays third base now.

[/ QUOTE ]

the manager and GM dont have to supplicate a baby on this team.

[/ QUOTE ]

Jeter is a baby?

Jeter even offered to move to CF over the offseason if the Yankees couldn't find anyone. He's one of the most selfless players in baseball. He's not a baby. But what position would you move Jeter to? His range isn't good enough for 3B and he'd be a horrible 2B.

Sorry if you aren't talking about Jeter but that sentence was kind of ambiguous. If you are talking about A-Rod then I mostly agree with you.

This may be my favorite defense of playing Jeter at short ever. He'd really suck at these positions, so let's keep him at a more important one where he also sucks.
