Playing suggestions ($500 br)
Hi all,
I'm regularly a cash game player, and I recently made a post wondering about cash / tourney's. Basically I'm half way through HoH II after reading HoH I and I'm a lot more excited about tournaments now. I'm a average 25nl player, successful 10nl player (over half decent / small sample, 30k hands). I'm not planning on dedicating 100% to one or the other, if I want to play cash I will, but I find focusing one one type of playing style easier to learn, and I retain more information easier if I'm not switching from one discipline to another. Anyone, to stop rambling, what type of tourney do you think is the best for trying to grind out and learn, preferably larger scale tourney's. The enticing idea of them is 'The big score' which for me rules out 10/9 man STT's. Is the 4.40/180 on stars a good place to start? Any $1/2/3/5 MTT's I can find and enter? How would you approach this? Is 100 buy ins going to be enough (I know if you're a loosing player nothing never is). How'd you all get started in MTT's? |

Re: Playing suggestions ($500 br)
With a $500 roll I would definitly stick to the $4/180s. Check out shaundeeb's guide for a lot of good advice on these.

Re: Playing suggestions ($500 br)
If your looking for 'The big score', I'd suggest Stars $3R+A tournaments. Huge fields so don't expect to final table it immediately. But if you do, you have a chance to 10x your current bankroll.

I don't think he should be playing the $3r on a $500 bankroll.

[ QUOTE ]
I don't think he should be playing the $3r on a $500 bankroll. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, the variance in that tournament (as it would be for any 2000+ runner rebuy) is huge. He could bust a $500 roll in that tournament within a week or so even if he was playing perfect donkament poker. I strongly suggest grinding the $4 180s; and taking the occassional shot at the 19.00 ET $10 20K guaranteed on Stars. If that sounds dull, well, it kinda is. But $500 doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room for MTTs I'm afraid. Particularly if you are unwilling to redeposit. |
