Viejas used to have 3/6 Omaha 8 going almost always. I would assume Barona/Sycuan are the same.

We were in LA for three days during WSOP and there was nothing running at the cardrooms higher than 6/12. I'd like to chalk this up to all the action being in Vegas but I know nothing.

[/ QUOTE ]Truthiness - I live in Los Angeles. To the best of my knowledge there is no sustained Omaha-8 game at the 15/30 limit offered by any L.A. area casino.

Various local casinos offer regular games at limits between 2/4/kill and 6/12/half-kill. Not all casinos offer all limits.

I played for about six hours today at Hollywood Park casino. There were two full tables running, 3/6/kill and 4/8/kill, with a waiting list for each table. When I left, both games were still going strong.

The Bike usually has a 6/12 game going, in addition to at least one 3/6/kill table and occasional other similar limit tables. I think Commerce has tables running at similar limits.

Hawaiian Gardens usually has multiple tables ranging from 2/4/kill to 6/12. I can't remember if the 6/12 game is kill or half-kill. (I'm guessing half-kill). The last time I visited, there was only a waiting list for the 6/12 game - no actual game.

Those limits, by the way, are not much different from the limits I saw in Las Vegas earlier this year. But I understand there's more action while the WSOP is running.

While we're on the topic, are there any 18+ casinos that spread low limit L08 in the LA/Southern California area?

I have seen plo8 spread only once in 5 years of playing in LA so really no luck with that.

As for O8:

Commerce: 3/6 and 4/8 usually one or the other, rarely both. Good action as expected for these stakes. Mid limit you are s.o.l. unless a tournament is in town then occasionally they will have a 30/60 or 40/80. As for high limit 75/150 with a kill to 100/200 goes on occasionally when the right group of players come along, this is usually hit or miss. When a big mixed game goes on, 200/400 or higher, usually O8 is in the mix, pray you have a few holdem specialists in the game because they play O8 so bad. I have seen as high as 400/800 straight O8 only a hand full of times when a big tournament is running, e.g. in February.

Hollywood Park: 3/6 or 4/8 fairly often, and for these stakes maybe the best games in LA, but people get scared and complain about playing in the 'hood. For mid limits they have a 20/40 mixed with stud8 which goes on fairly often and is generally more hit than miss. This game has a half kill. They also have the same mix at 40/80 which has some tougher players but that is expected for the stakes. Sometimes they make the game straight O8. For both of these limits even the good players play bad IMO but they don't give it away.

Bicycle Casino: Can only speak for 6/12 really, and that game is not that great IMO unless the jackpot gets huge, which happens occasionally and then they are jumping. They have a 20/40 stud8 running regularly that occasionally adds O8.

Hawaiian Gardens: The 6/12 with a full kill is the best game on planet earth pound for pound on Friday and Saturday nights, the rest of the week it is just ok as it is usually filled with nitty prop/house players. I have seen people win 1200 frequently in that game on a weekend night. That game is the hidden jewel in all of LA, I just wished the stakes were higher but I guess if they were then they probably wouldn't be that good.

I played the 6/12 at the Bike for an hour, and it wasn't great. In about 20% of the hands there was one limp and it folded around to the BB ... and then they AGREED TO CHOP. I had never heard of such a thing, but they said that they would only see the flop HU if there was potential to hit the jackpot because the rake was automatically $5 in that game once they saw the flop.

And in the hands that did play out it felt like there was quite a bit of collusion among the regulars. It was quite disappointing.

This is no way to play poker.

I'm going to dig more and see what I can learn. It sounds like I may need to pick up a new game.

Buzz: you give A++++++ advice in O8. The force runs strong through you.

But I am wondering why you would play 3/6 and 4/8 when it would appear that your skills would allow you to play much higher. Perhaps it is a product of my youth, or of never having gone broke, but I would find 3/6 to be quite tedious unless it was the only game in town and was just for fun on date night. (I hope that this question doesn't offend you.)

Thanks for your posts in the thread, btw.
