Just was reminded of this by another thread: Kurt Russel's total change after the tables are turned in Death Proof. You think you know what kind of movie you're watching, what kind of actor he is, and then all of the sudden you have no idea what is happening in front of your eyes for the rest of the film.

Rick,

Sorry, I should have made it a bit more clear that Come and See is the title of the film and provided a link. Well, here it is. See it.

My Girl and Higher Learning both need to be mentioned in this conversation.

Great topic. I know some of these have been brought up already, but what the hell:

Saving Private Ryan:
I watched this with my dad when it first came out. We were so so so pumped up to watch this awesome action movie with Tom Hanks. Then the beach sceen came on and that guy had his intestines all over the beach while he screemed "MOMMY". And the knife sceen, brutal.

Land Before Time:
When the mom dies. I was like 5 and that was the worst thing on earth.

Click:
This has more to do with my family, but when Adam Sandler sees his dad for the last time and keeps rewinding it over and over. Jesus I was a wreck. How the hell did he do a movie that make me sad.

La Vita è Bella (Life is Beautiful) 1997

For most of the movie Guido is trying to convince his son that their interment in a concentration camp is an elaborate game, a special contest to win a tank.

At the end he is just shot. It's quick, dirty, unremarkable, and utterly devastating.

3 Oscars including Best Actor (Roberto Benigni)

Just a few of mine are:

Legends of the Fall - When Tristan returns after several years and sees his father has had a stroke. When his father writes "am happy" on his little chalkboard gets me everytime.

Braveheart - the "Freeeeeedoooooommmmm" scene and the final scene when Robert the Bruce says "You have bled with Wallace...now bleed with me!"

Rudy - Seeing his father's reaction after Rudy gets the sack.

Backdraft - "Let me go, Bull" "You go...we go" sniff, sniff

The Iron Giant - When he flies toward the missile at the end and says "Superman"

Spencer's Mountain - When the tree falls on Clay and Grandpa and when the grandma comes out of the house and tells them that grandpa is gone

The Last of the Mohicans - After Maqua kills Uncas, Chingachgook fights and kills Maqua (awesome soundtrack)

[ QUOTE ]
In general...."The Deer Hunter".

Specifically.....The Christopher Walkien "Russian Roulette" scene.

I've seen the movie just once, and will never watch it again.

It takes my mind to places where I don't ever want to go again.

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought the final scene where they were singing God Bless America was truly the most devestating one for me in any film.
