All-in or overbet option in PLO? Interesting rule
I sat a B&M 1/2 the other night and watched a player learn an interesting rule the hard way.
At this casino, you're allowed to over-bet the pot (up to all-in) at any time. The next person to act has the right to call the over-bet or just the size of the pot. If that player agrees to the over-bet, it's binding for the rest of the players remaining to act, e.g. they can't bring the raise back down to pot size. Not knowing this cost the dude next sitting next to me about $600 b/c he said "call" thinking he was just calling the size of the pot, when in actuality he was calling all-in. His opponent didn't care that he didn't know the rule, so he went bust. Anybody played a structure like this before? Is it semi-common live? I personally didn't like it that much b/c I feel it detracts from why Omaha Hi rules supreme as a PL game. This particular game was also uncapped so you could literally sit with 10k if you wanted and just shove it all in. Granted, you can do that in many HE games, but all the draws and re-draws are what makes PLO the action game it is. |

Well now that's a pretty sick rule. Open to abuse, especially for someone like myself. I don't think it's fair to impose it on someone who didn't know the rule, though.

Yeah, I've played NL Omaha at several places where the dealers are too stupid to count the pot down. It does allow some potentially profitable opportunities if you want to nit it up, but it bastardizes the game worse than short-stacking does.

doesnt make the no limit part the game much more boring?
Since the pot control thing in omaha is one of most importest things for chasing draws. with NLO you can simply buy the pots to make the bet so big that it cant be profitable to call with a draw. Personally i dont think i will join the NLO game |

What if the first guy decides to call only the size of the pot? Is this binding for the rest of the players or can the next guy call the all in?

[/ QUOTE ] The first action after the overbet is the binding action. If the player next to act after the all-in bet says "call all-in", all players behind him must call all-in to continue. If the first player says, "call pot", then all subsequent players can only call pot. |
