Chris Ferguson recently got to $10K starting from nothing on Full Tilt as a bankroll management demonstration - although it took him a age to get above $5. Didn't Annette Oberstad start with freerolls on PokerStars?

I think that you would be better off, if you enjoy playing poker, to get a small BR together and play the nickel/dime 6-max cash games for a while. Get $100 together or something. You'll be able to play flops and practice hand selection and what not. Personally, I think that cash games > multitables > SNGs in terms of learning and fun. For instance, if I weren't actually trying to make some $$ in this game, I would be playing 6-max because I know I can get involved in a ton of hands.

And, playing flops, IMO, is more fun than not knowing what the heck is going on re: when to push / when to fold. Wh

Participate in a lot of microstakes poker discussions, if you are really interesting in learning the game.

There are also plenty of sites that give free $$ for you to sign up. I think that Royalvegas has a pretty sweet deal where you don't even have to put $$ in deposit to get $$.

After a few months experience, contact Mr. David Sklanksy for staking. (lol, I couldn't resist)

OP, I like barry's advice, if you can afford it deposit $50 on pokerstars, they have a first time bonus deposit, play the micro stakes cash games and $1 mtts and build a roll, that's essentially how I got started.
